    154.6/ 12.6

Quite a variance from last week, but then I did just spend 5 days in New Orleans eating every friend seafood I could find. Still, very small weight difference + big BF% difference makes me think it's just a hydration thing. I did start running more regularly this week.

More regular updates from here on out.

165.8 Weight loss has slowed a bit, but I suppose I have all winter to get to my target weight.

DC Rainmaker (Ray) blog has a nice discussion of BF scales with comparison to BOD POD results. Worth a read. The take home is all the scales do weight well but BF is not accurate. This is expected since the resistance method is an estimate and only that. However BF is consistant enough day to day to track a trend. For my scale BF measure is heavily dependent on hydration state. If I get on after a tough ride I might be down 2-3 pounds in weigh while BF goes from 8% to as low as 5%.

An interesting observation was how even quite fit people tend to ahve actual BF's in the low double digits. My BODPOD result was 12% which I thought was high so Ray's data tables made me feel better about not being a complete porker.

Looks like 135s are established and that was the goal. But rather than check out, and since I haven't lost any power yet on the bike, am going to target the 133s and see what happens. 133 will be very tough over the fall / winter with business travel and reduced TSS but worth a shot for the spring races.

Make sure you're not using the approaching winter as an excuse to put on a few lbs, I've done that plenty over the years. Stick with the focus on what you eat, weigh yourself and get the exercise you can. It takes a month or so for the good habits to stick.

Tom, can you provide the highlights of your eating boundaries, food types, what large changes did you do? You've made HUGE (pun intended) progress in the last couple years!

Regarding the BF% and impedance measurements, no you won't be using this for accurate measurements but it's useful to watch your hydration. I did a BOD POD and Caliper test 2 years ago. The Caliper test was done 3 times in all the multiple places. Those 2 correlated to less than 1% of my 22% at the time. I had been using "Athlete Mode" on the Tanita scale which was showing around 12% BF. When I switched off althete mode, the results were very close to the BOD POD and Caliper measurements. My experiences for what it's worth.

It's pretty simple; typical breakfast is fresh fruit (cantelope, strawberries, blueberries), 2 eggs, 2 pcs toast, black tea...mid morning snack, banana bread and tea....lunch, 2 rice cakes w/ peanut butter, cottage cheese or string cheese, couple of dried apricots and water....afternoon snack, handful of nuts and a couple of apricots or small box of raisins before workout....dinner is either a small salad or a bowl of consume and crackers...if I'm still hungry I might get into some Graham crackers before bed. I drink only water or tea, no fruit juices, milk or soda ( well sometimes I'll have a coke or dr pepper on a long ride)....but if we're at a function or party I'll eat whatever is around, but i might skip breakfast the next day..... That's it!

    Got my Tanita yesterday:

    6', 169.5/13.6%

At one point early in my cycling career (2005), I weighed about 12 pounds less. I'm picked-up some upper-body muscle thanks to pushups and pullups, so it's no big deal. Maybe I can get down to 10% BF if I work at it a bit.
