The real estate situation is really pissing me off. We have been renting the same place for 8 years, and it's nice, and they haven't raised the rent, ever. But we really want our own place, and while we've been saving up a decent chunk of change, the real estate has risen way faster than our savings. And since my gf and I commute in opposite directions, we can't really look somewhere cheaper without one of us having a horrible commute. Stuck in our apartment paying below market rent isn't necessarily a bad situation but we were hoping to get our foot in the door by now.

I'm in exactly this boat. I moved here from SF due to rising costs and a long commute, partly because this is where my job is and I thought I'd be able to save up for a house here. Six years later, my rent has gone up a bunch (thanks, lack of rent control and overheated housing market) so not only have I not been able to save that much, but most decent houses here are now way out of my price range. If my landlord raises the rent again I'll have to move to Concord and have a much longer commute. Sigh.

We have exactly the same conundrum here in Australia. My wife and I separated because paying the mortgage was sending us to the wall, work as a draftsman is drying up and we could not agree on how to fix it. Ironically, for her we ended up selling the house post split. Now I can not for the life of me see that I will be able to buy another house before I die unless I move to a small country town. I'm certainly not opposed to that, actually that's want I want to do but my kids are still very young and live with the ex who refuses to live outside of a city. The prices are just absurd from what we were paying in the past.

I just got rushed to sign on for a Long Term Incentive plan at work. Basically get given shares that will divest over a three year period in return for staying around longer. Done.

Two hours later I get the conversation with my boss that my job is at risk of redundancy as non core functions are likely to be 'best shored'.

Sometimes we need the little shove in teh back to make us take the step we should make anyway. I know I've needed it in the past.

My grump....I'm having another bout of CFS or thyroid issues or depression or what ever it is. I feel like shit and it just makes everything else that much harder to get on with. I wish the doctors could just figure it out.

This is more of an observation, and definitely a first world issue, than a grump but I really, really need a vacation and I can think of no vacation that avoids the things I'm trying to get away from: airports, airplanes and hotels.

Stupid thing, I know, but I'm really not all that excited about going back to work tomorrow at 4:30 AM for my next 4-day trip.
