Using 25 for the global warming potential (GWP) of carbon is the number for a 100-year time horizon. Most calculations are now using a shorter time horizon, 20 years, where the effect of methane is much stronger.

The 20-year GWP for methane is 85!

Only on the topics where it is accepted to do so.

Don’t sell yourself short. Tenured university professors have been forced out for questioning methods, while agreeing with conclusions or goals.

Unless I’m wrong, your ‘challenge’ to the accuracy was met with a bit of anger and misunderstanding. Despite the fact you made your intentions quite clear.

I didn't read it like that. Guido referenced were the quote was sourced and why he thought it a good quote. This is great then it allows more investigation. I think what Guido was implying is 'Don't shoot the messenger'.

More importantly, Steve Chu may be right and I may be wrong since the New Yorker article isn't listing assumptions. His assumptions may be more fully loaded, and he may be correct since I am leaving something out. But to be fair, Steve Chu is referencing green house gases which includes methane while my first numbers only looked at carbon.

However, we still come to the same conclusion- just a slightly smallert numbers but the Titanic is still sinking. If you think about it, I have taken 6 round trips NYC to London and 3 round trips NYC to Tokyo and that greenhouse gas footprint is about equal to a family of 4 annual beef consumption. As they say in Minnesota, Uff Da!

Yeah, sorry Doug, About the doxxing, dispatching that army of angry trolls and social media bots, all the threats to you and your family, the mound of spurious Freedom of Information Act requests that interfere with you doing your real work, and the threat of criminal investigation made on the Senate floor.

Oh wait, that's what happens to climate scientists. Those who question the orthodoxy bought and paid for by Exxon/Mobil and the Koch Bothers, and troweled on by the American Enterprise Institute.

Yeap, if you use 85 , then 4 lbs of beef is 1/4 of a London flight. It looks like my annual carbon footprint from flying equals the burger consumption of a teenage boy. Uffda

This post of yours looks like trolling much more than anything that I posted.

Perhaps.... but only if you subscribe to established orthodoxies of what constitutes trolling.

Maybe they release tension by swinging with the Carvilles. Ew.

This is clearly some kink the two of them have.
