Concert review:
Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen last night. 2 1/2 hours of them singing songs and telling stories. It felt like I was visiting with friends that I hadn’t seen in years.
Two thumbs up.

I'm going to hear Kenny Barron's trio next week. Excited! Been too long since I heard live music...

It was an all-Canadian performance at the Rex Theatre in Pittsburgh last evening as Whitney Rose was the opener for Alan Doyle his band. Alan was the lead man for Great Big Sea until their breakup a few years back and he continues to amaze. Go out and see these folks if they visit your town...Canadian Maritime music is the best that I can describe it...sea shanties and traditional "kitchen party" music with a rock twist for sure. These folks are all multi-instrument musicians and their harmonies and individual performances are impressive.

hey, how lucky can one man get.
Richard Thompson Electric Trio at the Egg. Rory Block and Cindy Cashdollar opening. Stunning guitar playing in the opening just made look so easy... and then Thompson sat in on a song. So beautiful I almost wanted to cry.
Then Thompson and his band just plain rocked it out. Demonstrated again that if you want to rock, have a good drummer. That guy was detonating.
Egg membership and WFH is a great combo. Early notice so wind up sitting eight feet in front of the stage with nobody in front of us, still with good sound. Priceless.
Planning on springing for babysitting for this one. My wife and I have a thing for Australian New New Wave Murder Ballads.
i was in the front row for edgar meyer, bela fleck, zakir hussain, and rakesh chaurasia at the nashville symphony hall recently; it was a great show.
Really wanna see Metric in Buffalo next week.
Going to go see the "Live from Here" show at Town Hall in NYC 12/22. Probably see some great jazz, eat wonderful food, the whole NYC bit...

John Scofield tomorrow at Scullers.
I haven't been to Smoke in a few years now, but I have caught Johnny O'Neal at Smalls, he sure plays a fine set. I really like Smalls and Mezzrow, Bar Next Door, Jazz Gallery, 55 Bar, Cornelia Street and have deep ties to the Village Vanguard... So many fine places!
I'm leaning towards Gilad Hekselman and Joel Ross at Cornelia and afterwards heading to Smalls to hear Robin Eubanks if I can keep my eyes open...

Just saw Nine Inch Nails on Monday and it exceeded my wildest expectations.
Rhythm Future Quartet at Scullers on Thursday.
Folks, I just saw Skating Polly and Potty Mouth. They are effin' awesome if you're into strong women, fuzz and a bit of punk-pop.
Fair warning, there's a douche-bro band called Potty Mouth on Spotify. You don't want that band, you want this one:
