How do you connaisseurs rate Yellow Rose ? I just finished a bottle of their rye and promptly ordered another. Paired with Dolin it makes a smooth Manhattan.

I also got a bottle of Maker's Mark but haven't tried it yet. Besides the big names mentioned so far, not many brands of bourbon are available here, unless you go to a dedicated liquor store. Rye is even more of a niche...

Tonight I'm gonna ask Lloyd to make me a Toronto (pronounced Tronno) because I'm missing my friends from there and it might a while before we see each other again.

2 oz. Rye, Bourbon, or Blended Canadian Whisky (Pendelton or Crown Royal would be just ducky here)
    1/4 oz. Fernet Branca
1/4 oz. simple syrup (Lloyd uses Grade B maple syrup, and cuts the amount in half)
dash of bitters (Bitter Housewife cardamom bittters)

Stir, garnish with a twist of orange (or wafer thin slice), add one big ice cube. Luxardo cherry is OK too.

Tron-oh and Tron-ah are both acceptable. The most important part is to smash the beginning together. There is no Toe in Toronto.

My daily driver is Old Forester. Can get a handle for ~$36. Unless I'm feeling punk, and then it's always JD. Wife won't drink JD though.

I've had all the high-falutin hooch there is to have. I'm cool with the low end of the spectrum. Esp these days.

Scotch man here. I like black grouse and monkey shoulder blends sipped with a light splash of water on winter nights.

    Bulliet Rye is my go-to.

Buffalo Trace is fine, as is Four Roses Single Batch/Barrel.

Few Bros is still my high water mark for a <$40 bottle, but it never seems to be on the shelf.

Not impressed with Whistle Pig for the price.

For a local whiskey I like Hudson Baby Bourbon from Tuttletown in the Hudson Valley. Their NY Corn whiskey is good too.

Four Roses Single Barrel for a weekday sipper.

So last night I had a beer, a Left Hand Milk Stout.

I pretty much don't drink any whisky that's under your top price, but if I had to choose one in that range it would be Famous Grouse. It's not too bad IMO, though I'd rather spend a bit more and buy a bottle of Balvenie or Bunnahabhain.

Bourbon....I'm not a fan. Wyoming Whiskey (which is a bourbon) is about the only one that I find tolerable.

Should we thread drift this to Scotch. With the SIP I find myself getting one Scotch most evenings. It helps with the grim news. Macallan 18 last night. Lagavulin 16 the night before, Springbank 15 before that. I am running low actually.

Gotta keep it local-ish to it's Alberta Premium Dark Horse for me please (Sold as Alberta Rye Dark Batch in the US). Bit of an odd duck mix-wise as it's blended with a bit of sherry, but I like it.

For Scotch, especially if you're running low and can't get out, check out single cask Whisky from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. A bit of a black hole for money, but it's hard to go back to the single malts after trying some of these. Only available online, I think, and delivery is fairly quick. Although they can't say where each cask is from, the codes are a very loosely kept secret (The Whisky Portal: SMWS Distillery Codes).

Also, there's (Brian Cox's pronunciations of different whiskies)(Scotch whisky that is). There's a playlist where he runs through 45 of them. It's worth the few minutes to watch.

A friend turned me on to these great videos. That one is probably the best, just like his drink.

Lionel and I don't often agree, but when we do it's about Lagavulin 16. The friend who introduced me to it said, "It's like drinking peat!" It is. And I think it's simply superb.
