Milk crates were like the holy grail when I was a kid. Used to appropriate them from the back of local restaurants.

One of my daughter's friends got really excited when he saw I had vinyl records. He really wanted to know how they worked. Fortunately they're simple enough that even a humanities guy like me could explain that to him. He thought they were so cool.

He was probably 10 or 11. This was over a decade ago.
