I ran the Hyperdrive rom for a while, and liked it, and a guy at work really likes the Paranoid rom.
Based on the direction this conversation has headed, I have chosen the correct OS. Did I mention my cool phone case?
Nightly updates and custom OS? I will be in the corner in the fetal position, sucking my thumb.

Hahaha, yeah I'm out of the loop on tech stuff myself.

I might go over to Canal St. or somewhere and pay someone a few bux to do it for me. It shouldn't be bad to put a new OS on the phone with Titanium Backup, though. Press a few buttons to load it up and a few buttons to load your apps after downloading Titanium Backup. (trying to motivate myself here)

Curious whether this will remain the case now that android and motorola are under the same roof.

Stock Android also works really well if you don't want to mess with any of that. It's just that you can if you want to.

Google is big on keeping stuff open so I think it will remain that way.

I've been using a Galaxy S 2 for awhile now. I'm rooted and running a AOKP 4.2 rom. I am very happy.

Most likely, though, I will upgrade to a Nexus phone and keep it nice & simple. Maybe when the Nexus 5 come out...until then I'm totally fine with my old S2.

I recently gave up my Windows phone after about two years. If you don't need/want apps, it is by far the best, most intuitive, compatible, logical, organized phone OS available.

The best thing that piece of shit did was provide us reasons to fuck with you.

iOS: If you don't like the way it works, you're doing it wrong"
Android: "If you don't like the way it works, you change change it in settings"
Windows Mobile: "We really want to shove shit down your throat like Apple, but our marketing staff blows as many goats as our programmers."

Best part about upgrading was Doz quit giving me shit about my phone. Windows phones is unique in that folks with 'Ghetto PCS' pay-by-the-hour, no contract android phones feel empowered enough to look down on your choice of phones.

Best part of Windows phones? It was 100% intuitive right out of the box. Easiest phone to use right out if box. I have zero interest in reprogramming my phone, learning to reconfigure Android settings etc. Lots of folks love that shit. I want a phone, not a second hobby that requires cheat-codes from a gaming website.
