With all due respect to my fellow New Englanders, this California boy ate once at Anna's and said never again.

The only decent real Mexican I have found so far is Taqueria El Amigo in Waltham. Good tacos, not so good burritos.

The real find so far has been Gene's Flatbread Cafe in Chelmsford. The drive from Brookline is worth it. Hot or cold flat noodles are the way to go.

If you are in San Diego, Super Cocina on University is awesome. I would move to San Diego just to eat there. Better than anything I found in the SF Bay Area.

NICE :) Thanks man. I'll drop in at Sardi's after mid-week races look for me.

Keep it easy folks. Links, locations, you know the deal.

I second the reco for Anita's in NoVa.
We were basically chained to our desks at my old job, but on the rare occasions we went out for a proper meal, it was Anita's in Vienna or an Indian place whose name escapes me. If I can recall that one ill add it to this thread.

Yeah, I live here and haven't hit that place in 10+ years (never dined there pre-midnight, that's for sure). Although now I'm sort of thinking the kids might be old enough to dig it.

None of you will ever make it to my corner of small town America, but I'm going to rep my fave anyway.

Thai Noodle Town. In a tiny storefront, next to a wig store, in a rundown strip center next to a long-closed Wal-Mart. Three women -- a daughter, mother and aunt, as best I can tell since there's a pretty significant language barrier -- work there. The average age of the two women who cook has to be 75. From what I gather, one was a chef in a big-deal restaurant in Bangkok until about six months ago, when the younger woman asked her to move here and help run this restaurant. There are about six tables.

It's the best Thai food I've ever had by several orders of magnitude. It's among the best meals I've ever had, period. And you couldn't spend more than $30 on supper for two people if you tried.

For every ounce of surly the waitresses dish out to the late-night drunk crowd there's two ounces of friendly in the daylight.

You can tell real southerners/old people when they call the noon meal "dinner." My grandparents certainly did.

Having lived in Chicago-- Dragon Lady Lounge, Ba Le banh mi, Harold's Chicken Shack, and a lot of other places I can't remember the names of...
in Lawrence, KS, as if anybody ever makes it here: O Cafe (kickass Korean cafe with the strangest faux-English granny decor and vibe ever. I was greeted here the first time by a girl with a white lace dress with a big bow on it, a bow in her hair, and strangely rouged cheeks. It also used to be a tattoo parlor and has a weird one way glass booth in the back.), Lebanese Flower (cheap schwarma only open late at night).

p.s. I am extra cheap because I don't think of a $10 lunch as cheap
I remember when Anna's was $3.95 for s carnitas burrito. I pretty much lived there in college.

Just had to throw out another pleasantly good Mexican restaurant in New England. El Rincon Zacatecano Taqueria in Manchester, NH. Ehh on the burritos but they've sopes, tacos, birria or menudo stew. The horchata and jamaica are good too.

We stopped there both ways going to and from VT.

Prompted by this thread and thanks to the wonders of the internet, I just learned that this place is next door to Dischord House. Wow. Now there's a destination trip in the making.

    Vietnamese sandwiches, all over Dorchester.

And Pho, especially from this place:

    Attachment 52509

Someday I'm going to have to resist the Pho and get the Beef 7 Course. That's seven different kinds of beef.

... and I love the name. The place opened in the middle of 2000, just as the "2000" label was losing all its futuristic cache.
    GO!
