Also not a martini drinker here... Not really sure why. I drank waaaay too much Southern Comfort and gin (not mixed, thank God) when I was fourteen - first time I got drunk. Since, though, I just haven't gotten down with gin. And weirdly enough, I kind of come from a martini family...
In fact, I generally say I drink only beer, wine, and brown liquor. I'm a bourbon connoisseur, if ever there were such a thing, and a hoity-toity wine and beer drinker, since returning from northern France to the wine-and-beer armpit of the world, Canada. (Yep: not interested in hijacking, 'cos this can be a new thread: Canadian beer sucks.)
I'm also not a breast man: not something my bigger-than-me and now-pregnant wife understands. But then, neither do I.
oh and i generally don't mix me spirits with other stuff, 'cept ice-maybe a citrus twist. just give me a good bottle of gin and a jar of olives. russian vodka would be preferred, but then i wouldn't call that a martini.
my favorite martini-esque drink is a vodka gimlet. ketel one or absolut in a pinch, a small dash of rose's lime juice, a tiny bit of fresh squeezed lime, ice, shake, pour. repeat.
- Hendrick's
- Dolin Vermouth de Chambery, rinsed in the glass and tossed
- Shake it like a... well, you know
- Olives
or bust.
"Do you want ants? Because that's how you get ants."
I'm with the more Vermouth crowd. I prefer run-of-the-mill Gordons over Bombay Saphire. Stick the gin in the freezer. Refrigerate the Vermouth. 1:4 Vermouth:Gin. Over ice and shake it baby, it's called a shaker for a reason. Three olives. Ahh.....
If you like Martinis try Soju. It's more alcholic than Sake, and tastes sort-of like cross between a martini and sake. Drink it cold but straight up.
I'll look at my nearby packy first. If they don't have it, I know another market that will, but it is a CF to deal with it.
Kal-bi is worth of another thread.
It all tastes the same to me EXCEPT for Bek Se Ju which tastes like turpentine. Soju comes in green 300 ml bottles. In Canada it goes for $6/bottle.
