not sure if they will work in your climate and soil (but if peaches work, you can try), but if you haven't planted any apricots, you are missing out. No shorty varietals as far as I can tell though, and they bloom early, so a fair amount of loss from late frosts. Of all the stone fruits, my favorite by far.

Pluots?? I have a couple of these trees, a beautiful little fruit. Hybrid cross of plum/apricot, it blooms a little later, but only by a couple of weeks.

I don't know why, but locals have limited success with 'cots - don't know why, as the
peaches rock - we grew 'cots in Tuba City when I was a kid, but that's over 2000ft higher then the Verde Valley......

Planting it on the SE side to shade the backyard, a good ways from the fence, or anything else, plenty of room away from the fence.
They get big........check these babies out down by Beaver Creek - I bet they are OLD.
Won't affect any of our views or sun.
Will help keep down weeds in the center of out yard, and block out the house to the S.

WOT - Someone tells me you can tap Sycamore tree's similar to maple?

This is the end. Finally a hard frost ended my peppers. It was a bountiful year. I think I'd die if I could not plant, grow and harvest something. A little dramatic I guess ;)
