At work, triple Americano (Veltin's beans - Seattle) made with the communal Cellini Rocket....w/ whole milk. Or straight shots.

At home, strong french press using some variety of good medium roast beans from a handful of local shops.

Out, 12 oz. Americanos or short "al415" style milk drinks (weekend indulgences).

    Moka pot 'espresso'. Black
Or French press ground finer than most would recommend, with a little bit of milk.

    Early and often.

Without straying too far from the topic I'd like to offer that in different regions of the USA when ordering an "regular" coffee may give wildly different results!

In the NE an "regular" coffee is : cream and sugar while in the south you get a cup of black coffee.

I had forgotten about this until traveling to New England this week and at Dunkin they asked if I wanted it regular and I had to think quick to ask for no sugar. My Pop Pop was a phone repairman and a "reg'lar" coffee drinker. He also drank iced coffee from an old school Stanley thermos, long before it became the thing to do. So when I got my first 40 hour a week job wi the public works dept I would make a pot of offer the night before and freeze it into 2 water bottles with plenty of milk and sugar for work the next day.

Sort of, it is a regional thing.

In S.Fl. you get Cuban coffee. I like it a LOT, it's like expresso with a ton of sugar, VERY strong.
While here in NOLA you get Chicory coffee, some say it's like dirt in your coffee but I would disagree.
An acquired taste, for sure, but now when I leave, I have to take some with me. Normal coffee doesn't taste right.

I'm sure other parts of the country have different styles.

Where is TK for this thread?

thanks for the H/U toots. glad i've not been caught by that one--it might induce a "spit take".

as i've always seen it, the "straight from the pot" approach allows only two variations in your daily cup, first-strength and second--temperature. there is no balance of sweet and milchiness to foul up by "topping off a cup". you get to drink continuously w/o doctoring on it.

hidden advantage: no sticky mess when spilled. it's just flavored, colored, and hot water. it won't gum up the works, or force you to change clothes or draw ants and bees and hummingbirds.

and the wine tasters/makers know that "a multitude of sins" can be covered with sugar. this is why wine sweetness and experience have an inverse relationship. the concept crosses over to other beverages and food as well: less sweetness allows more flavors to come through for fuller appreciation of the bean and the roast and the grind and water atwo.

but i draw the effing line at _instant_ my dad drank that shit by the gallon bitd. it doesn't tasted _that_ bad but the smell can induce vomiting. i didn't drink coffee in those days...

Just remember, if you ever go into the hospital for tests or what not, DON'T skip drinking your coffee in the am before going in. You'll likely die.

That is the exact same set up I use every morning. I'm new to coffee drinking and man is this stuff great! Everyone should own an Aeropress!

Mmmmm coffee. I'll take good coffee how ever and whenever I can get it. Wife just got me a Nespresso, so I use that every AM ristretto lungo etc... Milk and 1/4tsp sugar pends mood.Traveling/Camping at races I bring My French press and drink strong black coffee seemingly all day. Work is DnD drip black.

Life's too short to drink bad coffee or bad beer for that matter.

I have two methods of making coffee at the moment.

    1) Moka pot (Bialetti Venus) which I use when everyone is asleep. I use Brazilian expresso already grounded in vacuum sealed bags. Again - this method makes the least noise when I don't want to wake the world at 5AM.

    2) Jura Capresso machine - usually use french roast or some locally roasted beans and it grinds them and packs them.

With both methods - a take teaspoon of sugar and a dollop of soy milk.

If I'm at my favorite coffee spot (Brew), I've been getting a pour-over black - they've been using some costa rican beans that are pretty tasty

I remember reading an interview with Rishi Grewal were he commented that he and his wife used to do this. Not sure why but that stuck with me. I'll see if I can dig up the article. Sadly there was no mention of what they were wearing.
