Hey Bill -Thanks! One of the best things about the S90 is the self timer.

I use it in P-mode or Scene mode, I think this was scene mode set to "Foliage" which really just makes the colors brighter. Anyhow, I used the self timer, and set it to 20 seconds with "3 shots" as an option. And my secret trick, the Ultrapod II Pedco UltraPod Mini Tripod at REI.com

It is tiny and lasts forever mine is a decade old now.

I usually set the iso to 400 if I am taking pics of moving objects just to avoid blur. The S90 really is a nice camera.

Whale_spout - I think it is very resilient to snow and rain, its not a waterproof camera, but I have never had a problem. I usually carry it in a phone sleeve. I have a waterproof camera, its a Pentax Optio W60, the problem with it is that the shutterlag is so long, I hate using it.

    -Joe

Just purchased a Canon PowerShot S95 camera (and extra battery) based upon this thread.
Looking forward to receiving it sometime during the next few days.

I'm pretty sold. Y'all rock. The salon abides. Trust me, I'll post better pictures now I promise.

I'm going with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5. I especially like it for its video ability and it's fairly comparable with a couple other nice cameras in its price range; the Cannon Powershot G12 and the Nikon Coolpix P7000.

It's a little more than I was planning to spend but I've been letting some good photos slip away with my current camera so it's time to upgrade.

HAHA let the customization begin ;) I'm sewing an around the neck sling that converts for handheld. Length is adjustable so I can slip it in a rear jersey pocket and long enough to hold low for those "dramatic" paceline shots.
So far all is good. The Cannon is neat.

Megapixels are not where better images are at. Unless you make large prints all the time, you really don't need more pixels.
As much as I am a Nikon freaky fanboy, Canon makes a better point and shoot. Although the 8100 is a decent camera. And for taking action shots, all point and shoot cameras really suck bad.

What's really the best camera? One you really know how to use. It doesn't matter how good the camera is or isn't if YOU don't understand anything about:
    1. photography itself. You need to understand what is needed to get a good exposure and how to compose and frame the shot so it looks good.
    2. understand how to make your camera take a good exposure. If you don't know what your camera can do, it is a real waste of money.

Right on Chris. I'm learning this camera slowly but surely.
