Waiting for some of the other local venues to start up, but in the meantime holding tickets for...

Byrds (Sweetheart of the Rodeo) at the Egg
Particle Kid, Lukas Nelson, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Sturgill Simpson, Neil Young, Willie Nelson at SPAC
Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds at the Egg
Richard Thompson Electric Trio at the Egg
    Edmar Castaneda Trio at Proctor's
Enter the Haggis and Skerryvore at the Egg
    Banda Magda at Proctor's
    Mokoomba at Proctor's

Had to give away the John Hiatt tickets for the Egg show because we were obliged to leave town that weekend... never should have read the review afterward. Bumming seriously.

Tom, I like your list. Just got tickets 4th row center for Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen. This should be good! Two of my favorites sitting and picking and telling stories.

It feels disingenuous to say I am "going to this concert" because I'm a lazy procrastinator and I'll probably forget to buy tickets and then the date will sneak up on me and I'll say "Oops, oh well"...
but I would really like to go to see Ed Palermo's Big Band at The Iridium on September 17th when they'll be playing the music of Yes, King Crimson, Todd Rundgren, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake & Palmer, and (their usual repertoire) Frank Zappa.

Last Friday was Lindsey Stirling and Evanescence. Lindsey was impressive. No idea how she can split her attention enough to play how she does AND dance ad lib ballet and hip hop for 90 minutes. She dropped her violin about 2 minutes into the show -- no doubt the music was live in that show. First time that had ever happened, she said. Amy Lee (Evanescence) was less impressive. Sound mix was bad initially, she seemed to be going through the motions, and about half-way through her set she started getting pitchy and flat. But the collaboration numbers were cool.

I spent some time at the JP Music Fest on Saturday. Hallalujah The Hills and The Sheila Devine were highlights.
Plus explaining to a young MD of my acquaintance the difference what "LP" and "EP" mean. Kids these days...

You missed a fine show. Ethan was in a cool nearly classical mode but Mark was on fire. They finished off with remarkable versions of Giant Steps and Dixie's Dilemma playing homage to Mark's influences.

Damn. Glad you got to see it. Iverson’s also a really good writer on jazz. He’s got a piece on New Yorker online about Wayne Shorter in celebration of his 85th birthday.

Isn't he? Great to see the New Yorker has picked up his stuff. His blog is the first place I check for intelligent jazz writing. DO THE M@TH

I was in Denver for the last week or so, and I went to Red Rocks to see Greensky Bluegrass & the California Honeydrops. What an incredible venue.

Love, love, love Youssou N'Dour. You want something with a beat? Whoa, you got it! Love all the percussion. African drum is an amazing instrument.

The Bad Seeds absolutely destroyed it last night. Nothing new there, of course.
