I became a single father of four kids on Xmas day. Something tells me I won't have a say in where they live. This will never move to the Friday thread for me. The worst feeling ever.

I only know what it's like to think about the what-if of your situation, but just the what-if is pretty horrible to think about. I feel for you and hope you're able to hold on to the relationships you have with your kids and make them the positive life-long thing they should be. Hang in there.

    This is small in comparison..

But, I made my new year's resolution to be happier, ride more. So, I took the slow work day on Tues to have a beautiful ride in the 70 degree weather. Got 4.78 miles in before slamming into the side of a car that pulled in front of me at intersection. She just didn't see me. I'm sore. My IF Corvid is scratched up as are the components and I will never be able to trust the frame again. Insurance company already being jerks about situation. Took time off work , after arranging my own coverage, Wed to get painful thumb x rayed and caught heck from work for "walking out". I give and give to that hospital, surgeons, and patients. Once, I take care of myself first and they re complete heels about it. Effin suits.

So, my riding program derailed, my attitude in toilet, loads of time to be wasted trying to get insurance company to make right.

    Happy New Year.

Sorry I'm late, I was on the road for work. I'd do pushups but my shoulder is killing me, living on ibuprofen until cortisone shot monday morning.

Real grump, people who sit at the back of the room for a presentation and complain because they can't hear. You have got to be kidding, I swear I will punch you in the effin throat.

    Have a great weekend!

I'll do your pushups for you because I'm responding, but please tell me your shoulder problem is an overuse injury because you actually did deal with the complainers in the way you describe.

A day late and a dollar short but USPS strikes again. Really, is it that difficult to deliver a package and not run it in circles for a few days?

    AT&T being "helpful":

"I need to get my four digit passcode"
"OK sir I just want to say that I know exactly that you would need to get your passcode for the purposes of setting up your account it's quite essential and I understand exactly how you feel. A passcode is very important sir and here at AT&T we value you and your important time. So just let me get set to get your passcode, do you remember the answer to your security question, yes? OK very good it really is you, and I just want to mention that we value you as a customer and your time is important to us. And I know what you're after, what was it again? Thank you so much this will be very simple for me to get your four syllable answer to your very simple one part question in as little as twenty minutes. Did I mention I care about you and your family and well-being very deeply?"

    Deep breath....

I'll launch it off for this week...

So last Friday, just two days before her 14th birthday, my daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. It would explain the stomach issues she's been having, and the lack of energy. I've had an 18 year history with ulcerative colitis, and my dad suffered from that as well. Seems it's hitting each generation earlier and earlier.

Of all the hereditary things I could have passed on to her...

Been there guys…took a SOLID YEAR for my 13 year old daughter’s illness to be properly diagnosed. Multiple hospital visits, doctor, specialists, “try this” prescriptions, more referral and tests, etc, etc, and we were going to the best in Boston.

One doctor told us, after an emergency room visit 3am Christmas morning “Test her for lupus", and that was it. It was the absolute last thing on the mile-long list of things she was tested for (Chrohns being one), due to her age.

At least once you know what it is, it can begin to be treated. I’ll keep both of your daughters in my positive thoughts.

I've mentioned this a time or two in the past so I'll keep it short. Yesterday Washington DC received a 'dusting' of snow. Literally, a dusting. Less than a 1/4 inch. The chaos at DCA was epic. We left after it had ended by about 7 AM and we didn't even have to go through the deicing process and it still took us 67 minutes to get off our parking spot and get to the runway. It's simply inexcusable. This is an important airport in the nation's capitol. And there are a dozen important airports up and down the east coast that aren't any better at managing a dusting of snow.

We NEED, as a nation, to invest in infrastructure. The controllers were simply overworked and we throw money at everything under the sun and refuse to invest in infrastructure because it's considered pork and wasteful government spending.

This is not to ignore the fact that the locals there simply don't work well with snow, but that's not the primary reason for the chaos. It's multifaceted really. But my airplane costs about $50/minute to run (really more than that probably) and it really shouldn't take 67 minutes to get about 6900 feet from one end of the airport to the other. Do that math. There were dozens of airplanes crawling around and many of them cost more to run than $50/minute.

Please, somebody tell me how saving money on infrastructure spending isn't costing us much more money elsewhere in the chain of costs by resulting in a massive degradation of efficiency.

    That is all. Carry on.

I am sure you know this but unsexy infrastructure does not get politicians re-elected. It sucks because we are all watching are country disintegrate.
