I did this tonight to the dropout connection...just a little inside silver for her to eat.
    (Thanks Andy for the idea)

Just another added precaution for a better joint from this novice torch waver.
    Heat in the morning!

Looks nice, Luke. Amazing what one can do with a file and some shop roll...

Exactly...Other than a drill press, everything else is hand tools...I dig that the most. It puts the 'H' in handcrafted.
People (outsiders) always say, "Wow, you must have a huge shop with a lot of tools!."
I always reply, "Yep, a hacksaw,a hammer, a vise, a torch, and a few files." LOL

I like the idea that I could build a whole frame during a power outage--not that I actually have.

This thread has been very inspiring and reassuring for me as I want to do basically exactly the same thing you are (Sachs Max frame build) and I don't as of yet have any bike building experience, just furniture making. Your work is looking fantastic as far as I can tell. I'm not sure if I missed it but what is your torch setup like? How big are the tanks? I am finding finding (or deciding on) the right gear to be the biggest barrier to entry. Anyway, it looks great. Thanks for documenting the process so well.

Nice work. Why brass on the dropouts and SS plugs rather than silver?

If I may answer for Luke. Brass is stronger when there are larger gaps to fill. Brass is less sensitive to best cleaning during prep. Brass costs less. And for the stay caps- Brass won't melt out if the stays ar attached to the lug with Silver. The more i build (as a hobby these days) the more I try to use Brass where I can. Andy.

Go with the biggest tanks you can afford. I had smaller hobby ones and the frequency of refilling was such a hassle I bought bigger tanks. The local shop also charges a fee per refill, independant of the size of the tank, so it is more cost efficient to use larger tanks.

Exactly...Andy...I know (being inexperienced) I am prone to overheating...so I didn't want the caps to melt away when attaching them to the seat cluster.

Andrew, thanks for the info. Can you use brass on stainless dropouts?

    Thanks Greeny...
As for as equipment, I have nothing out of the ordinary. I have an old Victor 100 torch handle with a #2 brazing tip (what was suggested by others here)...and a set of big tanks
that have been in the family for years. I have very little for tooling...and built most of it along the way. Basic hand tools, as I said earlier.
Get your tubes and start! It's been a learning experience.
    Thanks for looking....

While there has been much on line discussion about this the general thought is no. Brass won't easily wet out on SS. Andy.
