And in 2019 they are going full hybrid and electric evidently, if that plan is still advancing successfully. I think that will result in an interesting line-up of reasonably high gas mileage all-wheel drive wagons. My car gets 32mpg no matter what, even with the racks on the roof. I was surprised the gas mileage didn't drop appreciably when the racks went on like it did with the VW TDI, which lost about 3-5mpg depending on weather conditions. But that still meant it got 35-40mpg!

Our TDI was not worn out when we finished with it, but it was basically worthless on paper so we gave it to our nephew who has been cleaning and caring for it meticulously while waiting for the moment he can drive it on his own. A boy and his horse.

I put up with the manual during my crappy Miami commute so that I have it when I'm not in traffic. 15 minutes of open highway with a sporty manual can make up for the previous hour of stop-and-go, IMO.

My drive is only about 12 minutes anyways, about half and half for city streets vs highway. Kansas City is not huge so you can generally get anywhere in about 30 minutes.

Oh huh. 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-In Hybrid. 407 hp. Probably needs the kick to push the batteries around?

The way I read it is that anything introduced from 2019 on will be hybrid/electric....so they'll probably still sell internal combustion cars for a least a few years after that date.

All new cars launched by Volvo from 2019 onwards will be partially or completely battery-powered, in what the company called a “historic end” to building models that only have an internal combustion engine.

Seems like they are also lengthening the V60 a bit, introducing (in the US) the V40 and then discontinuing(?) the XC70, which has been quite a battlewagon for families in the Northeast.

That new V60 in Polestar trim with a 6 speed and 3 pedals would be awesome.

They are very nice cars, but our XC90 was a reliability nightmare over the two years we had it. I'd lease one but wouldn't buy. Lovely car though, and it was checked out every weekend here. We have a V90XC now, but not enough miles on it to see anything.

Let's stay in touch on this, OK? We're nowhere near ready to ditch the TSX Wagon, but when we do these vehicles are on the list. At the car show, my wife couldn't stay away from the XC90, and the V90, V60 variants are really appealing.

Of course if I was going to get serious about a $60k Volvo, I would cross-shop the $70k E400 wagon...

That makes sense. I wondered as I hadn't seen that color on a Ferrari in the real world (it is more of a Lambo color).

That sweet new silver Volvo V60 pictured above looks great. Wow, that is a sharp-looking car.
Are they still “cutting corners” on quality since transitioning to Chinese ownership a few years ago?
Hopefully they abandoned that short-term money-saving plan and resumed a premium approach.

That new V60 is the best looking car Volvo has made since the 1994 855 Turbo.

I hope they sell a ton of them.

One year plus in our V60 and no problems, knock on wood. I just drove it up from the city to Hillsdale. Everyone around me was driving like crazed mating horse flies on a rotting carcass and I was rocking to the Oh Sees and letting smart cruise control keep me out of trouble, which it does really well. And the seats are great. I need to wash it this weekend actually.

I heard about problems in earlier V90's, but that car got a redo in 2016 or 17 and is supposed to be better. I have no idea whether it is or not. It is huge though.

Looking at the new V60, they've extended the back end, possibly for more storage but more likely to move the rear seats back a bit to accommodate American "baggage". I think that was smart, especially since it looks like they've retired the XC70. I see so many of those XC70's up here. I think they must issue them at the Massachusetts border.

The V40 has a back end that is reminiscent of the C30 hatch.
