I'd considered going custom two months ago, but I didn't want to wait a month for shoes; and sources said these stock options were coming on line.
Shit, I didn't know Sidi stopped making narrow. I'm a 47 narrow and mine are about worn out. Having narrow feet really sucks in a country full of duck feet. Are the Specialized narrow as narrow as Sidis were?

Aluminum freehub bodies, what a waste! This has less than 500 miles on it. Will the xd driver hold up better?

    I'll do my burpees.

Riding the moto to work this morning. Rad hose blows, giving me a lap full of hot coolant. Local dealer of course does not have the parts.

I had no grumps this morning until I found this:

15 bicycles stolen from Special Olympics Area 19 cycling program in Jackson | MLive.com

I volunteered at the Special Olympics National Games last week and was googling for some of the GoPro videos taken by the riders when I came across the above. Stealing from the less fortunate. Maddening. There's a GoFundMe link if you're so inclined, or spread it around your cycling sphere of influence.

Self absorbed bike racers and the particularly annoying parents of junior bike racers doing amazingly stupid things at race venues which put courses and events at risk.

Here's a good one: Parent #1 just parked on someone's front lawn waiting for his kid to ride by and the home owner asked him to move. Parent refuses to budge so homeowner calls the police. State Trooper tells Parent #1 to stop being an idiot and move the car off the dude's lawn. What better way to resolve that than to start arguing with the officer and the homeowner. OK dumb a$$, here's a citation for being extra stupid. Along with a formal complaint from both the home owner and the Trooper to the township and promoter regarding the nuisance of bike races.

    Yeah...

imadelio - post the link pls.

My family has been purchasing jewelry from the same shop since dirt was invented maybe 60 years. They know me by name. I arrive 1/2 hr. before opening time and the employees are there, one lady sees me and comes to the door and sternly says "we do not take customers until 10am" and shuts the door in my face.

I was dropping off a nearly new set of pearl studs. One of the posts became detached. The clerk told me it would be 3 to 4 weeks for the "repair". Politely, I reminded him this was a warranty situation not a "repair" hint hint. He stuck to his guns.

Lesson learned...despite the fact I'm 10 ft. tall nobody seems to recognize me when I'm in lycra. No excuses. Customer loyalty involves going the extra mile.

LOOK ME UP IN THE FREAKING DATABASE or ask the manager. Every customer is special and nobody walks into a shop HOPING to be given the bum rush.

    People who smoke...

I've become friends with a 23 yo gal in a health related support group who gracefully is coming to terms with the fact that the number of breaths her lungs will make from here on out is very limited. As she waits for a new set of lungs she has the grace to realize her eventual donor is spending time with loved ones and what a lung donation means for others. It's heartbreaking and inspiring to witness. Few of us possess that kind of insight in the moment.

So it really makes me grumpy to see a smoker these days.

Brave new world making me paranoid:

July 2012 a client took delivery of merchandise from a Chinese trading company. Client paid 2/3rds on delivery remaining 1/3rd due 90 days after delivery.

Shipment contained many defectives. Client held onto the balance pending resolution while I negotiated a settlement with trading company’s Hong Kong based lawyer primarily via e-mail.

Last week we came to an agreement where my client would pay a little less than half the balance. Payment was to go out tomorrow via wire transfer.

Turns out within hours of my reaching an agreement with the trading company, a local litigation law firm domesticated an unrelated Hong Kong money judgment against the trading company and issued a garnishment attaching assets which ‘on information and belief’ my client may have been holding on behalf of the trading company. Result is instead of paying the settlement to the trading company, it will now be paid into the court until a decision is made whether the money should go to the trading company or the Hong Kong based judgment creditor.

No skin off my or my client’s teeth. Once the money is paid over we are out of the picture.

What gets me is the timing of the whole thing. A judgment creditor just happens to come out of the woodwork the day we conclude almost two years of negotiations? Legal proceedings cost a lot of money. No one wants to pay for collection when there is nothing to collect. Quite the lucky coincidence this judgment creditor just happens to domesticate a judgment on the same day and in the very jurisdiction when assets belonging to it materialize.

I don’t know what it costs to hack into e-mail, but I’m thinking now it must be a lot less than litigation.

Looks like the client and I are going to have to spend the money retained from the settlement on electronic security.

    I've got one...

People in cars. Went for ride after work Monday after a weekend on call. Second turn from home, I signal my left turn off current roadway onto side street. No stop or yield for me. Put my hand back on bar to initiate 120 deg turn and lean. Lady at stop sign on the side street just goes, but realizes what going to happen so stops. I go back upright brushing against front of car as she taps me at about two mph. I stop, look at her and just say incredulously. "You just hit me". She says " I didn't realize you were going to turn." I say, " I signaled, but really need both hands on bars when turning." She's very apologetic so I just give her a plea I take those extra couple of seconds on the road for a margin of safety. As I finish, massive gaping ass behind in giant truck, of course, roars along side her wrong way on the road and tells me to get the eff off the road. I politely say that she just hit me. He says " you ain't dead, get the eff off the road, asshole". WTF. There's been a complete near miss. Two sec diff in reaction times on either of our parts and I'm seriously injured! Have a effing heart. You're not a brain surgeon, I'm sure whatever bar you're going to for a pitcher of crap beer can wait. I didn't say that be chase I'm just slow on wits after getting the proverbial feces scared out of me. But, seriously.

That's my grump. Thanks for listening.

    Jon

Why yes, I'd love to turn the thermostat up, I can see that you're cold and I'm sweating. Unfortunately men are not allowed to wear tank tops, shorts and sandles and consider it business casual.

Over a week has passed and I am still sick. This is antithetical to summer. Supposed to lead a big ride next weekend, and I have been so unwell, I don't even know what this has done to my form. And I haven't been able to ride my new wheels yet, either.

Working too much lately. Not really a grump, but an observation. Good for the paycheck, bad for the psyche as a psyclist.....

But I am sort of grumpy about one thing....

It's better to have friends than enemies but some people insist upon cultivating enmity. Take the high road - the view is so much nicer. That is all.

This is what I should have said to about 10 people today. My grumps are that 1) I didn't say it, 2) there was a need to say it, and 3) had I said it, I would have just made things worse.
