Family issues... After my mom moved into a MUCH smaller apartment, various items have been distributed, thrown out, donated, etc... And her new place STILL is packed.

Anyway, my sister who lives about 3 hours away (and is dirt poor) has "volunteered" to acquire many things from her. Refrigerator/freezer, barbeque, lots of clothes, canning jars, lamp oil, huge pole-built tent... And guess where it's all being stored? Yep, my garage. I need to charge rent. Not only is it cutting into my build space, but the new car is parked in the driveway. All waiting for them to get the time to make the trip up, coinciding with getting the money together to rent a trailer to haul it all.

I just found out that the shop I used to work for, Mr Crampy's in Redmond, WA, is closing their doors for good two weeks from tomorrow. Sucks.

Slipped a wrench while working on some equipment, punched myself in the mouth and broke a tooth...! Wtf? Went to the dentist and $1200 to fix, $120 to pull it. Now, I am down a tooth. Luckily it is in the back, gonna get me one of them gold jobs all the city kids get.

I umpire 13-14 YO baseball. I threw a kid out last weekend for numerous offenses including telling me that I sucked balls. His dad is a loud parent in the stands that complains about everything until the commissioner shuts him up. His kid is a real piece of work, smarts off to umpires, yells at his coach, complains about calls, etc. His dad thinks that the problem is with the umpires, specifically me. He is trying to get me out of the league and what he doesn't understand is, I'm fine with that. I umpire because they need experienced officials for the older kids. I umpired the state tournament last year after being selected from the region. Now this guy wants me banned, I'm ready. There's no way it's his or his kid's fault that he throws tantrums on the field.

At least it pays well enough to buy Hampsten road and a Rock Lobster cross frames this year...

I have a go-nowhere job at a tiny piss-ant company in an industry toward which I am indifferent doing work that is both beneath me and boring. It pays just enough that I would be foolish to quit but not enough to make it at all satisfying. I want a career change but there are basically no jobs of the type I want in this geographic area, and I'm stuck here because I own a house and the economy blows. My wife can't find a job at all, because she bought into the lie professors tell that "companies love hiring liberal arts majors." A bachelor's degree in philosophy and classics means the most brilliant person I've ever met in my life has $30k+ of student loan debt and can't get a job as a secretary.

On the "bright" sides: my company has been becoming increasingly unfriendly to its employees over the last few years and soon a $10/hour job at the bike shop will start to seem like a reasonable alternative; as I understand it, defaulting on student loans is the new hip thing. Trend-setting and whatnot.

First, a "dope fiend" is a heroin addict. They tend to not have strong opinions about marijuana.

Second, the reason that it doesn't have proven medical uses is because the research is more or less banned by the federal government, for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with reasonable public welfare objectives. Thankfully this is beginning to change.

Third, I think you missed the point of my post. I'm not picking up marijuana prescriptions, I'm picking up prescriptions for various opioids. For heroin in various different forms. The medicines my wife needs to not be constantly balled up on the floor writhing in pain are very tightly controlled, as they are the sort of thing addicts will kill a pharmacist for. Our neighborhood pharmacist was shot (he has fully recovered, thank you) last year in fact, and that location no longer stocks certain medications as a result. So I have go to the doctor, pick up the script, take it to a central pharmacy, get scrutinized, and be made to feel like the "dope fiend" I referenced in my original post because my wife is physically incapable of jumping through all the hoops the FDA and others have set up to be able to pick it up herself. This process took 4 hours on Tuesday. Thankfully I have a flexible schedule and can do this.

Fourth, I'm not even all that crazy about having some of these prescriptions in the house. Everything gets shredded. Addicts will go through trash to identify houses to rob for pills and patches.

Fifth, you live in a medical marijuana state. Small state that it is, I'm pretty sure you can find quite a few people who are using medical marijuana in a variety of forms to great effect. I personally met quite a few last summer. One that stands out in my mind was a former teacher, who retired early when she became disabled. About 55 years old. One of the more powerful people I've ever heard speak on the topic. I was moved to tears, in fact, to hear the story about how her new "medicine" had vastly improved her life.

Sixth, in case it wasn't clear, my feeling is that society is failing massively to humanely treat individuals with chronic pain and disability by not allowing a non-addictive plant to be universally considered as an alternative to narcotics.

Seventh, I'm not doing any push-ups.

Been sick, working crazy hours, barely riding, getting slow, and managed to finally break my s-works road shoes from a crack that started when the dog destroyed my shoulder in december. All that and there's a Corsa leaning against my walls with nothing by a rear wheel and a stem. That thing should be built by now. Fine, that's a grump-brag, but my work has me beyond my limit and it's hurting my health. I need to get that shit under control.
