With vacation and work travel, I haven't had a home cooked meal in about two weeks so we went semi-Mediterranean on the grille tonight. Mesquite grilled marinated chicken with pasta/roasted tomatoes, olives on the side, grilled flat bread, salad and fresh corn all paired with a nice Rose from Provence.

Ran out of time this afternoon, so went simple on the Green Egg tonight. Burgers from dry aged beef along with grilled asparagus, bread, and a random bell pepper from the garden.

^ I agree with your Mom...the egg whites are what separates the pancake batter wannabe waffle makers from the Belgians...

1 cup of butter (!) probably does not hurt anything either...

Made something over the weekend that came out pretty special. Lomo al trapo turned out to be one of the easiest, tastiest things I've ever made or eaten (not exaggerating). Basically, wrap a tenderloin in a towel with a heavy layer of kosher salt (enough to make a crust), then throw the whole thing on hot coals. Cover, flip once at ~10 minutes in, then cook to 95* internally, then give it 10-15 to come up to a rare 120. Melt in your mouth tender with an amazing smoky saltiness. Served with grilled asparagus, poblano peppers, and a chimichurri.

Chicken piccata with lemon/garlic linguine and heirloom tomatoes from the neighbor's garden. Accompanied with a small garden salad and a nice, chilled Portuguese Vinho Verde.

My one kid has been growing these habeneros at school. I tried to eat a piece tonight but I couldn't do it...off to the Belgian knee warmers mix.

Mrs. RW caters to the kids when they're home for the weekend so our middle one likes marinated/grilled pork loin and homemade baked mac n' cheese...give them what the people want.

I spent four hours making marinara sauce yesterday and it's the best batch yet. No photos but it's in my instagram story for a few more hours. Hella good.

When you're married for 34 years, your wife takes a pasta making class with her friends and you and your kitchen become her test lab and lab monkey...no complaints here.

Got upgraded to a condo this week with provisions to cook things (but, strangely, nothing with which to clean up), so I marched my ass to Whole Foods and grabbed a fancy piece of dry aged ribeye. Sauteed some corn and lime on the side.

    Bonus steak and eggs brekkie

Sure is! Aren't you still not riding bikes in Utah or something?

Nope. I'm back home not riding bikes here (actually I rode this morning, but it was soggy, sandy, windy and not fun). Beer soon?

Definitely! Looked like an unpleasant morning to be out, for sure.
