Vsalon Nomads Eastern Parkways Ride (Fall) 2019
There is a chance I'll organize a Caravan this Fall which will go from Front Royal, Va to near Roanoke, Va. This might consist of several campsites with loops from each place for two days.
We follow the Blue Ridge Parkway with a divergence near Nelly's Ford to drop in and camp at Devil's Backbone because they have awesome beer and I know local roads to get us back to the Parkway.
Caravan teams are composed of two people taking turns driving and riding. We all start and end at the same place each afternoon.
We will mix it up using NPS camping and private camping. The bicycle riding will be hard, we are in the mtns. following ridge lines.
Total Distance each day varies from 50 to 75 and lots of climbing.
I've got this organized into a 5/6 day caravan with emphasis on insanely beautiful route, great camping and good company.
Date is TBD sometime in the fall to avoid the worst leaf watchers traffic.
FIVE DAYS people, this will be epic in a good way.
Interested?

If you're talking about the loop up past Crabtree, then yes!

For camping I'm talking about the private campground associated with Devil's Backbone Resturant / Brewery. Riding, I'm talking about descending Wintergreen > stay at Devil's Backbone than next two days ride some loops from there. One of the loops is a dilly, we ascend Crabtree drop to the opposite valley and maybe come back up 666 or Love's :) Yep.

Progress!!! I've got tentative dates and all of the campgrounds and routes except the last day are complete. Folks here know the deal. Express your interest, lay down your money for that 1972 Winnebego sitting in your neighbors yards and get busy.
===============
Here are the broad strokes and tentative date(s). I'm still working on the last campground details and ride routes...the rest is done. FWIIW most of the riding meets the magic 100' climbing / mile eg not crushingly hard but definitely you must be fit and have some experience with it.
September 7 > September 15
9/7 > Meet at Campground near Luray. Short ride, check for loose parts ;)
9/8 > Long ride from campground. Approx 5/6k climbing on Parkway and Valley return (6 hrs.)
9/9 > Shorter ride day. Drive to new campground near WinterGreen. Awesome drive on the Parkway (3 hrs.)
9/10 > Long Ride from camp. Hard day we will ride from the valley to the BRP and descend to the opposite valley, climb back to BRP and descend to camp. Bonus: dinner at local brewery. (6 hrs)
9/11 > Local loop, incredible sights. Shorter ride. Never easy but shorter day. (3 hrs.)
9/12 > Travel day to new campsite near Roanoke. Short ride. (2 hrs.)
9/13 > Not a huge ride into town for lunch. (4 hrs.)
9/14 > Rolling ride, all backroads. (3 hrs.)

Love it Andy. I've finished the logistics so stay in touch. The last day of camping will be at an Airstream only site however tents are ok as guests of the site rental if that helps. There are nearby campgrounds as well.

Yes this happened. We grilled some steaks, consumed a few adult beverages, and managed to get a few miles in on the bicycles.
The riding was epic, to include an unexpected 3 mile gravel climb, followed by a gravel descent that was not appreciated by all participants. I will try to post a few pictures when I am near my computer.
As far as the next Nomad event? Give us your ideas, and we will put something together. I also need that next event to day dream about to get me through the weekly grind.

Oh THAT climb? It was only a 2 divorce ride. LOL. We are for sure doing that again.
The event was fantastic. Dan and I are cooking up #2 and will report back.
