servicing a victor j torch

howdy,
I'm in the process of cobbling together an oxy acetylene torch setup so I can continue my frame project. I just bought a victor J50 torch off of craigslist. Although there isn't much about it online, it looks like a J27 or 28, except the knobs come directly off the sides. I'm looking to do my due diligence and replace any o rings and whatnot before I send gas through it. The knobs assemblies, which are nutted, are a bit sticky, and obviously I can't just oil 'em. I'm wondering if anyone has had one apart, and would care to share their experience.

No oil !!!

I have used Victors for years - take them apart, wipe them down with a clean rag and a little alcohol and inspect & re-assemble.

Unless they won't hold a setting or something like that don't tear them down beyond what's required and don't over-tighten !!!

You don't want to get set on fire.

If the knobs are loose you can just tighten the "gland nut" to take up any slack between the packing ring and the knob shaft. I've been using a Journeyman torch for 20-some years without ever having to disassemble anything.

If you are buying all used stuff, you can usually drop a pile of regs, torch bodies, etc in a box at your local weld supply and they can do a full service. I need to send in some regulators myself.
