The end of this quarter has just been awful; being a software engineer on a platform team, we have tons of teams making contributions to us, and there has been a real dip in code quality...but my wife and I leave tomorrow for a weeklong vacation splitting our time between San Francisco and Sonoma. Planning on bringing a lot of wine back, so we are bringing our large, hard-sided suitcase. We really need this.

I've finished up the interviews both on-site and phone for a new job. Last night was the last interview with the corporate VP of engineering and today was a series of phone calls with my headhunter confirming that I was ok with the salary and vacation the plant manager offered on Monday. Now I'm just waiting on my formal offer. Next is the relocation from Paris, TX to Kingman, AZ. Similar cost of living except housing. The housing is about 50% higher per square foot, but the pay is considerably higher too.

Next week my son enters his freshman year at the US Naval Academy. Hopefully it's an eventful (in a good way) four years for him.

Congrats! In a former life, I was on the faculty of the USNA. It's a fantastic place filled with dedicated and talented folks. Your son will learn and grow enormously there. Best of luck!

Rode to the local market to grab some dinner fixins. When I came out, there was a beautiful silver Kvale locked up. I pulled my phone out to take a picture of it, but quickly put it away when Mr. Kvale began unlocking his bike.

I grumped last week about our daughter being diagnosed with breast cancer. This week I’ll be grateful. Pet scan came back and confirmed that cancer has not spread anywhere else. Her attitude is in her words, “let’s kick this bitch in the ass”. She’s a fighter.

It looks like our older son found a place to live in Bloomington so he's all set to start grad school on 16 August. Btw, for you folks that live in the area or attended IU, what a nice town and a beautiful campus. I've located all of the important venues such as bike shops, coffee shops, pizza shops and ale houses....after all, that's what Dads do.

These were last Friday, but whatever. Thanks to Anne (Speedychix) for the super lightweight Islabikes Beinn 24, some peer pressure from watching his cousins and my 9 year old finally decided it was his time to ride.

His world is forever changed and he's loving it!

Slowly inching the seat up on him, but he's already got a few 6-7 mile days in his legs. Dad is pretty excited too.

Got my kid back from her senior trip to Japan. She was tested--TSA broke her suitcase, slide and flood danger caused her to be evacuated from her host family for a bit, mom and dad weren't there to say it's okay not to eat the weird thing--and she came back strong and happy.

^^^ turns out she does so when she's with friends, and then comes home and tells us how good (some of) it was. But when I take her to a ryokan, leftover city.

Kingman, Kingman Arizona??? I thought folks only got gas there, maybe fast food. Road bike riding will be sparse, but a mountain bike I'll bet you could go forever.

Yeah, road bikes might gather dust or appear in the classifieds here. My Coconino Dirt Road Racer will have a metric shit-tonne of dirt roads however. I'll end up with a MTB by winter. I'm heading out in a week or two to house hunt. I-40 has a nice dirt road parallel to it on both north and south sides. Rt 66 has a good shoulder for 50+ miles east of town. I was looking at a neighborhood NE of town that has many miles of paved road with no homes that I could ride in loops. I'm definitely going to invest in some new lights as well.

I had lots of great times at Nick’s. Hope his IU experience is a great one.

I'm on vacation. I leave today for an MS150 fundraiser. 150 miles at over 100 degrees this weekend, but when I'm done, I'm pointing the truck toward Flagstaff. I have a new frame waiting at Coconino Cycles World HQ. Will definitely be ready for some cooler mountain weather.
