Yessir I did. Everything is working well as "she" (don't ask me as my kids gave the car a name a few years back and she became a she) passed state inspection for another year, so why not. The backstory is that I've had at least one kid in college for the last six years and the last kid starts in the Fall. That's the equivalent of a Ferrari 488GTB or (3) Porsche 911's...yikes. That's why I continue to drive the old Audi I guess...who needs a Ferrari anyway.

4 cylinder. You can get motors for these that put out about 180hp and they go like stink. Handling much better than a 911 of the same vintage. That color is Signal Yellow, I think.

The dad of a high school friend had one o'these. It was gold, maybe the champagne gold poly from that era. Mint. For some reason Dad let his kid drive it once in a while. Great fun but not at all a safe vehicle for two high school boys to be out in.

I would love to buy a wagon. The Audi I drove a couple months ago was really nice but had two dealbreakers: no factory trailer option even though there is this option available on Euro-spec models and the sunroof was not a deletable option. I wish we had more á la carte optioning available with some of this stuff like they have in Europe, especially since many European cars can be custom ordered rather than just delivered with a set feature spec list. I'm not putting on an aftermarket trailer hitch and the sunroof reduces headroom too much in the Audi All Road wagon.

Alas, I may end up with a tall wagon (aka crossover SUV) at some point just because. It's not imminent though. Trying to keep my finances in order and a new car doesn't fit that situation at the moment. Going to try to keep the GTI rolling a bit longer.

I really enjoy driving my B7 Avant. I have some minor upgrades planned for spring that will make it even more fun.

Saab, you should get over the inability to remove a sunroof option. Just keep it closed. It's 2018, they don't leak or break down like they did in the 90s and it's unlikely you'll keep the car long enough or treat it poorly enough to see any issues. As for the rear tow, the aftermarket options are nice.

Not interested in this option. All sunroofs eventually creak or leak or quit working and the opaque cover on many of today's full sized moonroofs seem flimsy. A buddy with a 2016 VW Touareg had some issue recently with his full-roof moonroof. It was fixed under warranty, with extra fingerprints and smudges on the headliner for free. No thanks. So they do have problems and reading on Audi forums about this it sounds like they will start to creak eventually. I don't use them so I will go to great lengths to buy a car without a sunroof. The Q5 is advertised as available without one and if I go that route that's how I'll go.

It's just a personal quirk. I Don't like them. I Don't want one and the resale effect of not having one is of no interest to me. I'm buying my next car for me, not the next person. We all have our things and that's one of mine.

As to the trailer hitch, that's less of a deal breaker but if a factory hitch is available, that's the direction I'll always go. The wiring is in the proper place and it's installed in the factory with the appropriate trim pieces. But I've been putting my bike in the back of the VW for 12 years now so that's always an option.

The Q5 and Q7 look delicious in person, as do all Audis to my eyes.

Alas, a new Audi in my garage is probably not happening too soon. Putting those payments into my 401k probably makes more sense.

My absolute distaste for sunroof/moonroof is identical to that of Saab2000.
If a manufacturer lacks a “delete option” it is an immediate dealbreaker.

Absolutely. I maxed it out for years but now that I'm over 50 I can put in more and with a pay cut the past couple years (that's now back into the black and will keep growing) I will max it out again from here on out.

I have no car payment and I plan to keep it that way. The VW will have to suffice for the time being and it has no sunroof!

I recently replaced my FJ Cruiser with one of these. 15 years ago I had WRX that had persisted as my favorite car ever. Well, not surprisingly, the STI is now in the top spot. I actually look forward to driving somewhere, anywhere. And I hate driving. The dark gray with dark gray wheels is a perfect combo, IMO.
