Iconic Ski Director Warren Miller Dies | Outside Online
My ski cabin was richer because of him and VHS. I'll miss that voice which meant winter was here!
Whether you were a dirtbag, or a wannabee, you loved Warren Miller films.

Yep. A pioneer and a good one.
Definitely a trailblazer.
And so soon after Bruce Brown too.
my name is Matt
The first time I skied Tuckerman Ravine, in 1984, Miller was filming that segment of Ski Country. I'm in that line of skiers watching from the boot ladder up the headwall. On film, you could see my green anorak and orange and red ripstop windpants, but the colors on the video are too muddy.
The slow motion video doesn't do justice to how hard that guy hit, the size of the crater he made, and the ferocity of his tomahawk. I think he broke his lower leg and they took him out of there on a sled.
Miller says "skiing Tuckerman's once is a fantastic experience. Doing it twice is a dumb experience." I was a junior in high school and my high school coach took me up there. We stayed in the leantos for three days. He thought five runs a day was a good vigorous day of skiing.
His voice/narrations were a big part of the joy his films still bring to me ......
I think you need to be a certain age to understand his impact...
Buy a ticket, anticipate, see the film with friends, circle the calendar for the first day...all this before the internet of course.
His voice...so iconic.
