    Default -- Tuna Salad...

--- i've been in love with tuna salad for 68 years that i know of..
when most kids were ordering the hamburgers/cheeseburgers and hot dogs.., toasted cheese too ----
i was ordering tuna salad with my mom at the dime-store food counter.., or maybe that $.25 submarine
sandwich with the slice of green pepper and egg on top..
-- when i would come home from college.., after a hot date prior to home.., mom always had a "big bowl"
of tuna salad waiting for me --- for the weeee morning hours revival snack..
in the paddies of rice.., mom always sent me cans of tuna so i would whip-up some ----- never, never like mom's..

-- in corporate life i was always the one ordering a tuna salad plate in lieu of the prime rib plate..

and now tonight.., my tammy, center podium, with mom's recipe tuna salad --- no, it's now tammy's tuna salad..

thank you mom for the ocean's of tuna salad you made for me & teaching tammy well ---- i know someday you will
be waiting with your tuna salad for me..

Good tuna (solid white albacore, or High Seas smoked tuna - possibly my death row last meal)
    Kewpie mayo, or homemade
    Chopped celery
    Toasted sourdough

    Side of salty potato chips

I used to do sweet relish or bread-and-butter chips, but these days I like the crunch of celery. I could go back and forth on it though.

Ahi poke is the only tuna salad for me. Mayo is an abomination.

I spent a vast portion of my life on this planet detesting tuna salad

...until I discovered three key ingredients:

    - stone-ground mustard
    - fresh dill
    - frozen green peas

Now I could eat that chit every day.

Tuna salad, one of the very few things my Mom used to make. So I'm partial, heck yeah.

Dill, yes. Pickles, bring them. Mustard? I like Dijon.

But if you have not yet tried American Tuna, get the heck on board. Amazing stuff, I can never go back.

Eat it from the can with a fork. Never pour out the water. It is that good. And the UPS truck keeps it coming.

    And to answer the question:

Whole wheat tortilla, warmed to just blistering on the burner (direct)
    Schmeer of Dijon mustard
    Finely sliced purple cabbage
American Tuna from the can, smushed with a fork
Arugula or green leaf lettuce, lots
Capers (fat) or thinly sliced dill pickles
    Spritz of rice vinegar

    Roll it tight.

Tuna salad is truly a staple food in my diet. Love it so much.
Coupled with provolone cheese, lettuce, onions, pepper, O&V.

Why did it take 11 posts for dill to show up?! We can hang...and split a dill and mustard tuna salad.

    ^ this

For "american" style with mayo then I recommend searing your own Ahi and then dicing that up for the tuna portion. sure, a bit of arugula.

Of course we only had canned growing up...but I liked putting cheeze-it crackers or goldfish on top before putting the second slice of bread on for an added bit of crunch. or, perhaps some cashew pieces instead.
