    Default Columbus SL help.....ARGH!!!

    Hi everyone.

So, every diagram I looked at states that Columbus SL seat tubes go painted end into BB and cut at the saddle end. The diagram on the Henry James site says the opposite. I went to measure the opening for a seat post and it is coming up at 26.8. I am 100% sure I went painted end down. I am clinically OCD and quadruple checked 4 times (16 total) :-)

The tubing was purchased from Marinoni in Quebec Canada.

I just checked the 2018 Columbus catalogue and it also says painted end down, cut from non painted at the saddle end.

Is it just a matter of reaming the material at the lug? When I put the park seat post measuring tool in, there was play at the bottom while it was tight at the opening.

Would there be harm in reaming it to 27.2?

    Thanks so much

Maybe your tube was made on Friday, after lunch... (sorry, old joke)

You should be fine reaming to 27.2, imho

If the tube is28.6mm OD and using lugs sure you have enough meat for a 27.2mm ream, but my concern would then be you might have welded the 0.6mm thickness section on the BB lug, which would not be that great.

For any future build, forget about diagrams and paints, they're just references, but nothing comes as true as your own checking on every tube, because shit happens, even if it's columbus decaled.

    Thanks Aimar.

I am learning and it was cheap enough to get the SL tubing. I had it brazed correctly, I barely had to ream it. Moving forward I will most definitely check every tube myself.

I never look to see which end is painted, I measure everything myself.
