The entire house sale/purchase circus has me beyond grumpy.

The buyer process for our house has been a cluster-f^#@ from the start, from them entering the house without permission (in fact they were told "no"), to the initial insulting offer... Now we're two weeks away from being homeless. The rental we'd lined up wasn't advertised correctly, and won't work for us.

Then there's the purchasing process... We looked at a geodesic home a little over a week ago, and I loved it. My wife not so much. So I pushed the idea away and we looked more. On Saturday we looked at another bunch of homes, and they were all "ok", but past boring. Cookie-cutter houses on postage stamp lots. Sunday morning my wife comes back with the idea of the geodesic house again, so we go take a look, this time with the older daughter. Daughter-the-elder LOVES the loft bedroom, so that takes care of one of my wife's concerns. She decides we should do ahead with an offer.

Now the loan underwriter is balking -- to quote: I’m seriously hoping that there’s an error when I search this MLS number as the property that comes up is a geodesic dome home. He goes on to say that unless there are other geodesic home sales in the last year in the area, financing will not approve it.

I'm so f'ing sick of financial bean-counters deciding my life...

I'll throw in some push-ups with my plank today...

My mother-in-law passed last week. Sweet lady, always great to me, my wife and kids. She had a rough life with a difficult childhood and poor health in her later years. I'll miss her, but it is almost worse to see my wife and kids so sad. Difficult set of eldercare issues now with my father-in-law. Also a great guy, but frail and his main emotional lifeline is an 80 pound mutt that he can't take care of. I'm deathly allergic to dogs, so we can't move him in with us. My wife is stressed and off her routine and only so much of this is amenable to anything I can do. I'm a 'fixer' and anytime she is less than perfectly happy I feel responsible even though things are beyond my control.

On a cycling front, I was doing some mindless junk miles to clear my head and hit a pothole on Monday. Shattered a new Bora. No one sells single wheels (and Campy pricing for rim alone is insane - 75% of full wheelset with pads, skewers, bags) so this was a $1500 brain fart.

Finally, cross is here and I'm in s**t shape. Sat out Granogue for the obvious reasons last week. On top of the family stuff, new job is less physically demanding than old but sucks up all daylight hours so training has sucked.

OK, I'm done. Nothing irremediable. New wheels will be here tonight and glued and ready to go by Saturday. As much as I hate it, I'll force myself onto the trainer for some intervals. First MAC race Sunday at Whirlybird - I'll get my ass handed to me, but that will be motivation and it's fun anyway.

Pretty minor in the scope of things, considering the storms and fires directly affecting many, but...
Our family moved house last week to a small city in an idyllic mountain location, and I can't see any of them because of all the smoke in the area. Like, can't even see the adjacent hill less than a mile away.

No hurricanes here, but I found out last night that the Dad I've always looked up to isn't the man I thought he was.

Looking at purchasing a rental to use for my oldest while he goes to school.

Man, house hunting sucks. Why do realtors ask you for a price range and consistently show you houses that are out of it? Was planning on doing it without a realtor but the first property we looked at was shown to us by the guy that sold my mother's house in May. So we kind of got one by default.

    First world problems, i know.

Two week trial and it feels like I don't have time to scratch myself (much less navel gaze on V Salon). Riding has consisted of riding to the office on weekends and incorporating some riding on the way or on the way back (or both).

Late, but it boiled over as soon as I got to work. On one project I have been holding their hands throughout. I have written how the policy standards apply to the project more than once, repeated myself verbally innumerable times. So they screw up a communication and send it to a whole set of people to whom it does not apply because they didn't read what I sent them with the latest information request and they are trying to say the information was confusing. Clearly labeled tables apparently are too much for them to comprehend.

No more holding hands. They're on their own. Screw them.

Here's one for you...today I had to replace the tires on my FJ cruiser AND realized that I wore out my HED Belgium rims! An expensive day of discoveries.

Why does a wave make it OK that you're pulling out right in front of me?

How does a nod make it OK that you're disregarding my right of way at the four-way stop?

Just give me the finger. I know it's what you really mean.

Well, I gave a like to your response. I never feel quite right liking others pain. There must be somewhere between like and dislike, but I can't find the button. Now that is a problem of serious magnitude.

It's ok to like my pain. I like to find silver linings. The silver lining on my truck is that they figured out how to turn off the tire pressure light that's been on for a while. Turns out the car monitors the spare too. Who knew. And on the HEDs, they lived a good life and now I can put my Fulcrum Racing Zeros back into service. Wins all around.

That spare tire monitor - wow. I wonder what bikes will be like in a generation or two.

In todays edition of no good deed goes unpunished, I discovered from my friendly building inspector that I need R15 not R10 insulation for the basement project underway. What's another $1150 in insulation among friends...
