Not using staples to hold the strips aligned while gluing?
I did a Grand Canyon raft trip back in June. Brad Dimock was one of our guides and he is a semi-famous wooden boat builder. The link is about building a dory but the school lists so much more.

keep 'em coming!
laughter has no foreign accent.
This project and method of not using staples is not for the impatient.
Slow going but happy for one week in.
Not much to see. Just stacking sticks.

I'm most impressed by the clinical garage.

Can someone help me with the auto-rotation action? I cant figure out how to manipulate them.

Are you milling the bead and cove?
Eric, I'm not milling the strips.
I'm working with limited tools (hence the empty garage) and limited manpower. I couldn't figure out a logical way to setup a solo operation with 20' intake and 20' outtake. So, I ordered the cedar from Noah's Marine.

Yeah, seems like a hell of alot of work for one boat (setting upt to rip all the strips). Looks like fun!
Two weeks into the strips and still glueing and stacking.
Now, I’m starting to plane and sand some lower sections.
I’m doing this for a change of pace and to make the daunting task more bearable.

Starting to look like a boat!
Fantastic work, thanks for the thread. Downright inspirational.

I’ll run a circular saw down that centerline once the glue cures. Then, stacking up the other side.
Also, trimming up the inner stems. End grains will be capped with the outer stems.

Jorn, I’m going to use a cordless circular saw with a 5 1/2” blade. I’ll set the depth around 1”.

That makes sense. When I worked on houses, we had this little Porter Cable that had a 4 1/2"(?) blade on it. It was corded though (batteries = amazing now.) Basically like an angle grinder repackaged as a circular saw. But that was the trimmer of preference on site. Didn't have the same kind of gyroscopic tendencies that the larger saws had so straight lines were a lot easier, plus visibility was better. Also lighter etc.
