Just saw Clutch is coming to town in December. Planning to be there as I missed them with COC last summer. So want to see COC with Pepper before they split again.

Saw Jason Isbell and the 400 unit over the weekend. They were exceptional. I hope to see Sarah Jarosz who is coming to town soon although I haven't yet bought tickets. John Hiatt and the goners are coming in I think February. I bought tickets yesterday.

Just got tickets for my wife and I to head up to Lyon, crash with some friends, and see Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I listened to them obsessively in high-school, saw what was supposed to be their last show ever, angrily/skeptically enjoyed their most recent album and came to peace with the imperfection and impossibility of artists (even the non money-grubbing kind) calling it quits, like, ever. In any event, should be cool.

That, and Mount Kimbie in November here at home in Marseille. Stoked for a rooftop dance party

I saw him at the Beacon in NYC and have seen him numerous times over the years — I’ve been a DBT fan forever. He never puts on a bad show and his band is great.

Speaking of which, I’ve been listening to this — Patterson, Cooley and Isbell acoustic —nonstop this week. Drive-By Truckers Live at Shoals Theatre on 214-6-15 : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive

Went to Masrou' Leila in San Francisco last Wednesday. I really didn't expect them to be that good, but Hamed Sinno totally channels famous rock queens past, and he has a Mideast charm they didn't had.

They are touring the US later this month, try to catch a show.

Just got tix for Bob Dylan and Mavis Staples. I’m hoping Jeff Tweedy shows up to play with Mavis, but that’s probably unlikely.

If you’re not aware, Jason Isbell is webcasting from the Ryman tonight. Jason Isbell To Live-Stream Tonight's Sold Out Ryman Show | Americana Express.

This is one of the best singer-songwriters out there and his band is great.

Shameless name-dropping/thread drift: Somewhere buried in my cassette archives I have a recording of an improvising quartet consisting of me on drums, Thalia Zedek on guitar, Rich Stevens on bass, and Ann M. Walters on alto sax. Circa 1985 I think? Gotta go dig that up.

I saw two sets of The Bad Plus and Bill Frisell at the Village Vanguard on Saturday night. They did tunes from Bill's 80-90s recordings. Wonderful show.

Wow that must have been a heck of a show. Did the Bad Plus do their own set as well?

Nope. All Bill's stuff but the last tune, finished with a cover of "If I Live to Tell". Dave King described how it was Bill's recording of that tune that gave them permission to do their thing.

Next up for me is NRBQ. I’ve been seeing them regularly since I was sneaking into Toad’s Place in New Haven as a kid 40 years ago. It’s not the same “Q” with Tommy Ardolino passed, and Al and Joey gone, but it’s still Terry Adams who I will pay to see again and again. Then it’s Jason Isbell and James McMurtry.
