Didn't mean to butt in but I'll post it anyway. It is a Patrick Clark recipe

    Asian Marinade

    3 cups oyster sauce
    ˝ cup brandy
2 ea cloves of garlic crushed
    2 tsp minced jalapenos
    2 cups soy sauce
    1 cup hoisin sauce
    3 cups h2o

    Method

    1. Combine all ingredients and place desired meat for 24-48 hours.

Been waking up with the roar of either the Blendtec or the a Breville Elite. They are complementary, as opposed to competitive, machines. I've had the Breville about 4 years, and the Blendtec for about 2 years. When I got the Blendtec, I thought I might give up juicing with the Breville....but as so often is the case, at least with me, having variety helps keep my palate happy, and the results from the 2 machines is as different as their appearance. image.jpg

I got my Blendtec, a refurbished one, for my birthday to replace a cheapie Oster thing because A) they support bike racing, B) the machines have amazing reviews, and C) I loved the "Will It Blend?" marketing strategem.

I paid $279 for mine. It has worked a treat every time.

    My goto morning smoothie is:

    1/2 banana
1/2 a big beet, or a whole small beet
    1/2 avocado
    Some frozen spinach
    Handful of frozen blueberries
    Two teaspoons of hemp protein
Milk, almond milk, or coconut milk (depending on mood and the phase of the moon)
    Ice

Shit comes out delicious. I usually end up with 40 oz that I split with my lady or if she doesn't want it, I take half for to consume at lunch and the rest with breakfast.

One quibble for my Blendtec bros.: do your blenders sound rattle-y when blending a thick mix? I hear some rattling sometimes and I can't tell if it's blade cavitation or something funky with the motor

i think its the inside edge of the bottom of the jar banging on the boss of the base. take a look at the bottom inside(underside) of your jar, getting tiny black wear marks? not an issue afaiac

Still digging ours. My wife uses it several times a week, primarily for smoothies.

I know it's the Blendtech thread but....

I have an opportunity to acquire a new VitaMix Pro 500 for $0 as a Years-of-service-gift from my employer. The Blendtech was on my "to get list" later this year but now this dropped in my lap.

Any reason to pass on the VM in favor of the BT?

I can't find any significant functional difference, though some users prefer the squarish jar of the BT. Both products come with the warning/complaint from many users that they sound like a turbine engine.

i have found a shortcoming in my blentec. low volume emulsifications. say under 200 or 150ml. things just hang under the blade. seem to need more volume to get the vortex up and pulling from the bottom.

So far I've made smoothies, milk shakes and soup during the first weekend of ownership. Soup recipe supplied in the box was awful; tasted like dish water and the ratio of veggies to water was way off in favor of water. Looks like having good recipes is key.

The VM definitely sounds like a full size Port Cable table saw. No possibility of running it in the morning before people wake up unless I go in the basement and put it inside some type of box. It's certainly sturdy and they provide a giant book of recipes. Tonite I take on the hummus.

The one (Blendtec) I found at TJ Maxx for $200? Seems just as capable as my full retail model, just has a few less buttons. Bought it for my wife before we are married, so now we have two and I have the awesome luxury of having one at my office.

p.s. - original jar gave out (bearing failed) after about two years. They sent me a new jar no questions asked when I asked them about a rebuild it.

Yah... it's refurb or department store closeout or something like that. There really isn't a "105" version of a nice blender. Component parts that don't burn out or fail to do the job can't be had cheap enough.
