    Default Mirrorless Camera recommendations?

Long story short, looking into a new camera. Thinking mirrorless over DSLR, hoping to keep on the lower edge of the budget, and been eyeing the Sony Alpha A6000 especially intently. Anyone have experience/thoughts/other recommendations? (or heck, looking to sell one of your cameras....)

I have been using mirrorless (olympus) for the past 5 years. I love the picture quality/size. I currently shoot with an EM1 and I just bought a PenF today since it was on sale.

Additionally if you want a lens the cost of a mirrorless is usually lower than the equiv focal length in Nikon/Canon.

Thanks Joe! One reason the Sony appeals is the APSC sensor rather than the micro 4/3 Olympus uses. Any feelings about that?

Honestly I think it's hard to go wrong with a Sony, Fuji, Olympus or Panasonic in the mirrorless format. I have heard nothing but good things about them all.

I have used a Panasonic DMC-GM1 and I like the Olympus interface a bit more.

Take a look at this review by DPReview of the Sony 6500. They talk about early iterations of that camera in the process of reviewing the 6500. The earlier models come out pretty well.

There are a lot of M4/3rds lenses out there. The bodies are great and the image quality is very high. Sony also has high image quality, but their lens selection is kind of thin and their prices can be higher on average. That's not a problem if you just want one and that's it, but it adds up when you starting expanding your kit. Of course, any good fast telephoto is going to require bloodletting no matter how big/small the sensor.

Sony has a different way of organizing their menus - one of their well-known quirks. My pal says you just have to think like Japanese writing - down and left. To me it feels a bit like hide and seek or alphabetized in Japanese and then translated into English. But they are getting better. I think DPReview notes that.

I was just in Japan in October, and the Sony 6000 series camera was hanging around a lot of Japanese tourists' necks. They can't be wrong, can they?

As follow-up, if anyone is sitting on micro 4/3 lenses they don't use, I may be interested ;)

Any need for a Panasonic 45-200? Not a fast lens - need to look up the speed - but it renders crisp shots across the entire zoom range. Takes a 52mm filter, if that gives you any idea as to speed. Looks new (maybe 100 shots thru it and never out in wet or dust) and I would sell with a filter attached, both caps, the lens sack, and original box if I can find it.

I've got a Fuji XT-2 and XT-1. I love both. Neither is what I'd call inexpensive, however, the XT-20 and XT-10 are scaled down versions that are pretty reasonable (think Ultegra vs Dura Ace). And as folks are buying XT-2s, used XT-1s without a lot of shutter actuations are starting to show up on Ebay at pretty reasonable prices. For Fuji mirrorless, I'm a big fan of the physical controls on the body of the XT series, the color rendition of straight out of camera JPGs, and the super crisp digital viewfinder that shows what your image will look like in terms of both white balance and exposure in real time before you take the photo. I've dumped all my Nikon gear and have no intention of going back.

These are nothing overly special, but this was my first day with the XT-2 at the dog park taking photos of my schnauzers running around.

Be careful when you say "Fuji" on a bike thread when referring to a camera. Some might think you resurrected an 80s/90s steel Fuji frame as a fixed gear commuter and are now going all "hipster" on us.

    Nice Tubeless on the Zondas....

Fair point re: "Fuji" although I think the frame in the FRAME suggests that there's no Fuji in front of the FUJI...

And no tubeless for me, on any bike. Maybe someday.

Ye Olde Hutchisons are 23c - perfect for the trainer. Will probably never see daylight again.
