My MacBook Pro is shutting down randomly. Works fine in safe boot. Software issue, just reinstall... but my backup drive is 6 hours away in my office. Well guess I'm making a road trip.

I have google so my call with apple tech support (on hold for 45 minutes) was pointless.

Can no one at Apple tell me the difference between safe mode and regular boot so I can step through each process and find the culprit? Answer : no.

How is it motorcyclists can't comprehend that bicycling is very similar to riding a moto and we need to use the same visibility and active lane positioning to ensure our own safety?

All I keep hearing at ADVRider is 'get off my damn road you damn spandex clad [sexual preference slur deleted]!'

I give the biker's wave (hand low, palm forward, two fingers extended) to all the motorcyclists I cross paths with. Spread the love. They'll get it.

I woke up this morning and had no motivation to get out of bed. I waited until sunrise and then rode my bike to work Boy do I miss riding in daylight.

I have been in terrible mood for the past 2 months, so I got the wife's permission to do a three week road trip in February, I put in my vacation request for February 5th-February 28th. I get a call from my boss, do you really want to take the February off. I said yes, I am burnt out and need time to rejuvenate. We are having a long talk tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Last day of work for the year, the entire floor sounds like a tuberculosis ward. I've been hacking since Saturday, and only got back on the bike for an easy ride yesterday, first ride since last Friday. Started in the throat, and now it's settled in the upper respiratory/bronchial. Pretty much every one came down with it at the same time. Whoever patient zero is should find them self very scarce...

I entered into an agreement with a vendor for certain technology services. Last year, this vendor sells a portion of their business to another company. We are now receiving services from both the vendor and the new company. The vendor writes and asks if we would like to be billed by the new company or by them. We ask that they continue billing us.

They do, for five months. The expense then disappears from the (long, multi-item) monthly invoice. I continue paying the invoices in full.

In September I receive an angry demand for payment from a company I don't recognize. A little research shows that it's the new company! But hey, I've got an agreement with my vendor, and a letter laying out our billing arrangement. I got no notice from either party that they'd like to change it. And guess what? Legally, the vendor cannot change it without a whole lot of paperwork laying out the sale.

We explain this, both to our vendor and to the new company. We tell them what they need to do to straighten this out, and that once it's straight we will pay them. Radio silence from them, until I get a notice that we are being denied access to services from the new company.

Now I'm pissed. Neither our vendor nor the company deny the facts. And yet they're devoting their time and energy to cutting us off, rather than to getting their shit together so we can pay them and have a nice long-term relationship. I started sending testy emails this morning, explaining their stupidity to them using short words.

It's amazing to see how much effort my co-workers put into projects, how many hats they wear and how little they are appreciated by mgmt.

I'm off until January 3rd. I started my first day off at the VA clinic getting a blood draw for my annual wellness check next week. At the lab, you put your ID on the desk and they call you in order. One guy comes in and puts his ID in the front of the queue and the lab tech sees him do it. She says something to him and he pitches a fit about how he doesn't wait on anything. She calls my name and told her to take that guy in front of me so he'll be gone sooner. Ends up he doesn't have a lab request in the system, commence the second fit pitching. He storms out and I get my blood drawn done. There are a lot of things I don't like about VA, but I'm sure that guy is going to bitch to everyone he sees about how bad they are when it's probably his own fault and even if it wasn't, he could have handled it better. He was probably a jerk before he got to the lab.

The ladies in the VA lab are angelic in their abilities, four tubes of blood and I hardly felt a thing. To celebrate the completion of my cholesterol screening, I stopped at a diner and had a big breakfast with lots of cheese, eggs, and sausage.

First Christmas apart! Saturday my wife is off to Seattle for Christmas with her mom followed by ferrying her to chemo. Last minute change due to mom-in-law's recent diagnosis (other Grump). I'm staying put because long established family plans were to spend Christmas here.

    4. Binge on Prime/Netflix/Westworld

I have personally employed the first option (as a teenager with job obligations, it was a great Christmas), and I also know the second can make for a good day with proper pacing and hot/spiked drinks.

Strangely, or is it unfortunately, I'd be fine if I were solo, but that won't be the case. My mom, brother, nephew, sis-in-law and her mom (ugh!). So nothing active or involving more than one drink since I've got the minivan.

Okay, I just googled it. "Drunk legos" is a thing and it sounds amazing.

    First world grump, i know.

Drive through Dunkin Donuts, ask for 3 dozen assorted, they said no can do, only two, we're running short. I asked for a dozen glazed, in lieu of the third assorted, they said no, limit is 2 dozen. Shook my head, roger that, 2 it is. He then said, can i get anything else for you...

I almost asked for the third dozen again.

    Merry Christmas you filthy animals.

Xmas Eve and Hannuka fall on the same night this year. One of the few ironic joys of being Jewish is taking over the Chinese restaurant and eating shrimp with broccoli or pork dumplings with your fellow Jews while all the gentiles are home eating ham on Xmas eve. Not gonna happen this year.

As a Jew by marriage - which makes me only slightly more/less of a goy then the average schmuck - I agree but hope to this year find solace in homemade challah. Keep the gefilte fish, please. My wife is a less than observant Jew who loves bacon, so there's that.

Have had a rough few days so I could not wait until Thursday to share my grumps.

    1) Last Friday while in NYC I stubbed my big toe and pulled back the nail so badly it bled profusely and I may lose the toenail. As a result, I had to cancel dinner and bowling with my brother, sister-in-law, and nephews because I could not walk. My wife was irritated because we spent our last night visiting NYC in the hotel room icing my toe/foot.

    2) This morning I cracked my tooth eating breakfast . Now I get to take a train back to NYC on Thursday (see why I am grumping early) to see the dentist (my Uncle) to have the first of 2 appointments to have it fixed. The irony is I was at his office last Thursday for a checkup/cleaning and he said everything looked great. Unfortunately these things happen sometimes for no reason.

    3) Not sure yet but I am worried because I have always heard that bad things come in threes....

I need a break....but not another body part.

I think it was 1995, I did a ride on early Sunday morning with the race team of about 70 miles. I got home and then got a call to see if I would lead a club ride that afternoon so I did and it was another 50 miles. After the ride a friend asked me if I would watch his infant daughter while he showered because his wife was at work. I held the baby and rocked in a chair until I could hand it off and leave. The next day my world was destroyed with the mother of all stomach viruses. For three days I slept on the bathroom floor and at one point used the rug as a blanket. I lived by myself and thought I would die on the bathroom floor. I didn't die but it left me weak for two weeks. On the morning after a really good ride where everything felt perfect, I got out of bed and accidentally kicked the corner of my dresser breaking two toes on my left foot. Another couple of weeks of little or no riding. This was all in March. Because of everything that happened and the delays in getting fit for racing, I actually peaked at the right time and won a bunch of state medals instead of being overtrained like normal in June.
