Also an update of the 7s26 movement. That hackable bit is huge.
Cleaning up the garage today I found a watch my dad gave me when I was 10 years old. She needs a crystal and service but appears to function perfectly.

As mentioned by others, the Alpinist is a well known and loved Seiko model. I just recently got another JDM Seiko, the SARX015, from Shopping In Japan .NET | Shopping-In-Japan at eBay (see image below) I wanted something a bit more formal, but not fancy, and I think this fits the bill quite well.
The transaction went smoothly and I love the watch. (I'm wearing it as I type this.) It uses the same 6R15 movement as the Alpinist and the hand winding feature is very convenient. Plus, this one's turned out to be much more accurate than the 7S26 in my SKX007 - in over 10 days it's gained only 30 seconds.
If you like the SARB017 I say go for it.
I am no watch guy however that fits the bill.

Keeps shockingly good time. The wonders that are a 50 year old watch never been touched.

looks good Josh. nice to hear it jumped right back to life after so many years. if it were me, i'd source a nice leather band and save it for special occasions. the NATO is cool but a bit out of place on that one i think.
True. When it was new I had a grosgrain band so it's not far from the mark when I wore this as a kiddo. Something like this:

I bought an Orient Ray last year and wear it most of the time. It's even on my wrist now as I write this. Something about wearing a watch clicks with
me, so glad I finally got one tpo replace my broke Seiko Kinetic.
Just wanted to share my moment of watch weakness I'm experiencing right now with you all for support. I know you will reinforce common sense
thinking and tell me to let this feeling pass.
I have ties to the city of Detroit (I may be going back to the North American Auto Show next January after many years!) and I like some watches from a watch maker there, The Detroit Watch Company (not Shinalo, not that there is anything wrong with them, it's just a different company).
I like watches that have the day/date like my Ray and The Detroit Watch Company has a nice one that I keep looking at:
M1-Woodward Black Dial Swiss | Detroit Watch Company, LLC.
It's dressier than my Ray and I even like it with the black face/red band. Cons are that it's big for me (44mm) and seventeen times the cost of my Ray.
From the little I know, the movement seems decent and I love the case. Lugs, not so much. But I could see it on my arm.
But, I don't "need" another watch. It's time for a new bike and I have many other things (traveling!) I want to do with my monies. So, get thee behind me you oversized
thing of beauty that I want. Whew! I'm good for another month. That was a close one. Thanks for looking and let me know what you guys/gals think of this watch.
Negative reviews will be greatly appreciated, Ha!
My first foray into anything other than a G-Shock, having an office job and all now.
Not sure how it will hold up, but it serves a different purpose than my G Shocks so you know. The whole apples to oranges thing there.
It seems decent enough for the few bucks I paid. I was actually a bit surprised upon receiving it, on the good side of expectation that is.

Do the large knobs bother you? I fear they'd rub on the back of my hand or wrist.
I had been chasing one of these for a while, finally pulled the trigger a few weeks ago. Picked up an orange isofrane strap for it, which i think compliments the orange accents nicely. this one is a keeper!
This thing is well below the price average for this thread, but the mention of Seiko as punching above its weight for its price I've seen here got me to grab this thing recently. I like it. I've never owned a watch that cost more than $80 before. I'm becoming a confirmed titanium freak!
That's nice. It's a slippery slope. See you at the bottom!
It's that wonderful time of year known as Baselworld, folks. I'm really digging this from Tudor:
More here for their new watches: Official Tudor Website
And, of course, Hodinkee has a bunch of features on all thew goodies.
That's beautiful Matt. I've lost my desire for watches after getting the stupid Apple Watch. Probably
a good thing.
