yesterday was pretty shitty. capped off the by the youngest boy running his mouth off to me about why he didn't do his homework, said his biological father looked at it, and turned it in less than half completed. i've never been so close to spanking him. i can't, though, because i'm step dad and shit would hit the fan.

but then we got home and there was a violation warning on my door. an Officer Torrez responded to a "Dog at Large Violation (sm brown brindle chihuahua)".

    Violations:

no city license 2x (i had no clue our dogs had to be registered with the city...we adopted one from the city pound...wtf)
dog at large (a fence picket had broken and Tank got out)
no current rabies vac 2x (both dogs are current...thought there was a county wide database that stored this information)

i was already on edge and that just kinda pissed me off. especially since both dogs have tags with my name and phone number, and i didn't get a call.

Haven't ridden this week, as work has been kicking my ass, and today was to be my one day...but that got foiled, as i forgot to pack my shoes last night after walking around trying to figure out where the dogs got out then getting the boys in bed.

and wifey is at the doctor getting another injection. this time in her hip. knocking out that max out of pocket insurance in a hurry this year.

Not really a grump, but a WTFump:

Had a conference call with a client earlier in the week. They were 9 minutes late calling in. They had misdialed, were informed they won a $100 Walmart gift card, and then attempted to claim the prize. They got sucked into 9 minutes of phone scam before hanging up and calling into the meeting. And then they explained all of this to us. Conference calls are bad enough, can we just get to work and get it over with?

Work - we're down to the end of the last six months of work. I'm ready for it to be finished. Ready to move on to something new.

Tool patterns on oversized (TF47 and BSA30) threaded bottom brackets, do we really need 7 different options. Seriously people let's work together.

Getting in late on this one. The dog grabbed a dead bird on his last walk tonight. I had to remove it from his mouth. Twice.

Just returned from a two day recruiting trip to OU (OK) to find a few full time EE's and our co-ops for 2017. Our HR manager went with us to see the process and insisted on doing some interviews, alone. Oh good, the person with the Public Relations degree is interviewing engineers. She won't be here for the breakdown of candidates and who to offer. We'll look at her results with a lot of caution. I interviewed two great candidates, one of which was a naturalized Nigerian woman who was raised in England. Wildest accent ever and she talks a hundred miles an hour. Will be interesting with simple country folk of NE Texas if we hire her. She's tied with the first guy I interviewed this morning, it's a real toss up. Next week I get to go to Shelbyville, TN where I'll mostly see a plastics factory and a hotel before flying home.

I feel i am finally getting out of these woods. My dad told me that you never realize how tired you can be until you have young kids.

It was described to me as a really long dark tunnel. Not that good old fashioned train tunnel metaphor, but a dank crappy tunnel you crawl through. It takes years until you see light, and even more years unil that light seems like something you can reach.

Seems pretty accurate three kids and five years into it. That light is pretty freakin far off.

    Missing: New computer.

After a short courtship it appeared to be expediting it's arrival to my location. As far as I know it left Friday morning in good stead quite happy to begin the journey. Last correspondence was Saturday over the noon hour with no explanation of only traveling one city over in the previous 24 hours. Established a dialogue with last known contact who offhandedly dismissed my concerns with unwarranted guarantees of it's arrival in the morning. Fear it has fallen into the hands of unsavory types willingly abusing it. My arrival gift of a PCIe x4 envelope with respectably sized Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD inside just feels hollow now. Fairly sure this affair has gone off the rails taking any good times with it for the ride.

You'll wake up one day and the house will be silent. One kid will be in Prague, one kid will be in Soutwest Ohio and the other kid will be in Central Virginia. You'll wonder where the time went but you'll really wonder, how the hell you were able to raise a bunch of decent kids. You guys will be alright.

    I have three, 19, 17 and 11. It's work but it's worth it work.

Jim Gaffigan has a great line about what it's like having 5 kids (i think it was 5 anyway), he says, "imagine yourself drowning and someone hands you a baby."

    Classic line.

My grump, tomorrow is the annual DU Banquet for our committee. Such a long day, but we have a blast.

if you're really lucky, you'll get to the end of the tunnel and enjoy your new life without any kids and then find out that it was a 6 month long dream and one of them is now having a second childhood and has to come home and start a new career as an insult comic. Huh

That's the best. A nurse said "long days short years" when our daughter was born.

The first couple of years with our twin boys were just constantly tough. Sick, bad sleep, exhausting. I can't even remember a lot of it, mercifully. They're turning 18 early next week. I'm feeling a little sentimental about it.

My bike was stolen out of my barn. Really saddened. I've got people waiting on frames and won't get to build another for months. This bike went everywhere.

Who has a bike they can lend to Jonathan? There has to be a spare bike that will fit him somewhere among us. Looks like a 50-52cm? I'll kick in on shipping if someone has a bike.
