Even though Briggs+Strattons have given me a good 10/yrs each of first-pull starts, I'm seriously thinking of getting a second mower for getting my 10yr old son going on a neighborhood lawn business. The EGO 56V looks like it could handle anything my corner of suburbia could throw at it and it appears to be at a decent season-end price ($399).



Anyone else have experience with one? I figure Jack and I can knock out 5-6 lawns/weekend and he can get his XBOX and I can get a fat bike after paying off the mower in two weekends. Screw college. Of course, a good business must start with a simple logo.

That thing looks bad-ass! How much run time? How much to replace batteries? I love rechargeable until it won't charge, batteries normally cost about the same as a new one. 56V would have to last quite a while.

Yeah, the 4.0 a/h replacement runs $200. The trimmer has a smaller/cheaper 2.0 amp cell but the site says one battery-many uses... Initial reviews look favorable, but longevity is relatively untested. I'd hate to fork up $200 even every other year, given my $160 Briggs have given me a decade. The lighter weight is the main draw for my son - plus, I'm scheming up plans to convert the old Burley D'Lite trailer into a cargo rack to carry 2 mowers, trimmer, fuel, beer (and gatorade) cooler, etc. from lawn to lawn. :)

This is the best... It gives two hours more cycling time each week. I've had an Automower for 7 years now and it still works perfect, what an amazing product. I have about 1400m2 / 0,35 acre lawn with a complex shape, and it really gets the job done like in the pic.

Oh, I so want one of those but every year I'd have to replace the wire along the street where the city snow plow skins the first foot of the lawn. Many many people walk their dogs on my street, though, the entertainment value would be worth it.

Another happy Honda owner- 15 years old and still working great. Purchased it after wasting $ on two Crapsman and one B&D electric. Saw that Hondas were the choice of many of the landscape maintenance companies caring for the large common areas in neighborhoods so threw down $375 back then and can boast to it being one of my best tool purchases.

We bought a Fiskars StaySharp Max and it's amazing. First we got a regular reel mower, it was terrible, returned that pos, and got this fiskars, it cuts like it's nothing, really amazing, once you get it going it's just like pushing a gas mower, only no gas, it's silent, nothing to break. Wonderful.

Thanks! Not much thought. I obviously borrowed the naming from the cycling industry and applied it to the sickle-ing industry. :)

Whatever you buy, make sure you cut the lawn diagonally. That'll trick the neighbors into thinking you give a damn. Then go ride your bike.

Mow every couple of weeks, doesn't care if the grass is long and if it's wet it cuts even better.

I bought a hand operated, self-propelled, mulching Snapper with a Kawasaki OHV engine in 1997 (I was in middle school and my parents split it with me, effectively jumpstarting my lawn-mowing career). It has been in service the ever since and I now use it to mow my first 'my lawn'. The Kawasaki OHV has been extremely reliable with little maintenance needs - starts every time and does a great job. And it's 18 years old now.

Oh man. Wife got the idea should "we" should mow our own grass after some turf and fert guys came by to check out our weed problem. They claim our weeks and all bad stuff is coming from our lawnscaping guys bringing bad on their blades (I doubt these guys would ever clean their equipment). So - I might just plan on losing 30 minutes of my life every 9 days to cut the grass. Might be a nice break from yelling kids too. I'm guessing my yard would take about 25 minutes to mow (front yard only). I'd like to store the mower on the back side yard. Think an EGO would be alright while covered outside?

I've tried letting my dog destroy the front w/ 4 play sessions everyday, but grass doesn't grow back where it's ripped up, weeds do. My neighbor has an old push mower and he has the best lawn on the block. He doesn't have a Malinois though.

I'm going to blame the drought, then 2' of rain, then drought...our backyard is shot. Tack on the 15" over the previous 2 weekends, and it's pretty much a mud pit. Ugh. I wish I had shave the yard...instead, I'm having to try and figure out how to salvage it.

Please though - think about about the TREES! I wish I had a huge backyard for my dog to go wild in. I'd build a sweet obstacle course. I'd still need to mow the front through.
