The NUC is just a normal computer shrunk down...you can buy them with a whole range of spec from pretty slow to pretty quick. The ones we use are pretty good...Core i5 and i7 processors, 8 gig of ram, and SSD hard drives. Intel sell the NUC either pre-loaded with Windows, or they're fully linux ready so you'd just need to download an iso, load to a USB, and boot from the USB.
System 76 sell the NUC pre-loaded with Ubuntu: https://system76.com/desktops/meerkat
System 76 also sell laptops pre-loaded, and there is this Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition | Dell
If it all sounds too complex then a Mac Mini is basically the same hardware and pre-loaded with their operating system, OSX. OSX is based on Linux / unix but has their own rather unique take on things. It's a bit of a hybrid between Linux and Windows and although it has a bit of a learning curve it's not terrible to use (I'm a long way from being a mac fanboy but I've got a Macbook Air which is a fantastic laptop with excellent battery life and the nicest keyboard and touchpad I've ever used)

Re: WiFull ndows 10..Geeks Unite!
I do like the Apple hardware and had ideas of getting a Apple lap top of some sort and loading the windows system on it. I guess I'm vain in not wanting to look like a fanboy, kind of cutting my nose off a little. I'm not really sure what to do to be honest. The idea of loading up Linux to my old laptop and resigning it to work shop duty while I invest in a new computer is probably where I'm going. Just don't know whether to get a box or a laptop.

After a few days of using windows 10, I can safely say that Windows is still not ready for the desktop with still the very same flaws.
