It's been relatively dry this year, so it has not been through the 'normal' conditions yet. (There might be some selective memory at work here given that I managed to bugger the BB bearings in just a few months because of the amount of water ingress left unaddressed...) That said, as I mentioned in my blog post, what really surprised me is how it manages to keep clean despite being oil-based. Why is that?

Chik I Agree.
FWIIW Friction Facts Lab ( Friction Facts ) results put NFS in the top of the most efficient lubes yet is trumped by waxes and some XYZ blends (heavy on the solvents). The man behind F.F. is a good scientist, we talked at length about precisely how the tests were performed to my 100% satisfaction. That said, it was a singular data point result only measuring efficiency under "new" chain / ring conditions which IMHFO only begins the real story because we do not pedal in a sterile laboratory environment! So here is the rub (ouch), in order to add some real world challenges to the test environment such as grit and moisture it will cost upwards $15K for each new factor or more. Lacking this information you must read into the results and look closely at the general composition(s) and intended usage of these products.
Basically, I kicked everyone's;)

I know everything is proprietary... but how did you come up with the mix you wanted? Did you describe your product to a manufacturer for them to mix and send samples or are you a mech. eng that sent a lubrication manufacturer what you needed as a mix and had them do that?
Im not asking for any secrets, I don't think?

Is the stuff available now different from the small sample bottle I got a few years back? Again, not asking for secrets, but wondering if the substance has evolved since those first samples appeared.
You gave me that bottle, IIRC, at one of the Friday coffee meetings in DC.

See, now you are stuck with an old bottle for 3 or 4 years
Personally I miss the smell, but it is smart business for you to reduce it.

Interesting chart B. , my sis used to be quite the essential oil importer and I've learned oodles listening to her take on things.
I've got a nearly odorless, bio-degradable product waiting in the wings for the right time to introduce it. During testing people's reaction was that when something like chainlube has no scent it may not be effective or worth paying for!!!
