Spent the better part of this morning getting an MRI arthrogram to examine my left hip.

The tech casually said that my hip doesn't look like it belongs to a 36 y.o....and that I should have come in sooner. Ugh, I almost lost it. It sucks to be feeble.

Here's hoping I can move about the world without pain someday soon.

Someone in Utah who works for the same gov agency I do has the same first name, last name and middle initial. This has caused numerous problems with HR over the past few months, so the decision was made to change my name in the central financial database to include my entire middle name instead of just my middle initial. This took 5 people in 3 states, but that isn’t my grump. My grump is that I now need to get a new security badge to get into my building and log onto my computer, which involves making 2 round trips to Sacramento over the next few weeks—one for new photo and finger prints and one to pick up the new badge. Security! This is happening while I wait for an email to see if my name was included in the recent security breach of fed employees PII database. Hopefully they will send the email to me and not the guy in Utah with the same name.

I had my now monthly antibody infusion today and took two benedryl instead of one. Hole hell that knocked me on my ass and made me incoherent. I'm still in a fog.

There are 6 stages to defense project management (this probably applies elsewheres as well):

    1) enthusiasm
    2) disillusionment
    3) panic
    4) search for the guilty
    5) punishment of the innocent
    6) praise and honors for the non-participating management

We're passed 4 and well on our way to 5.
    Insubordinate. And Churlish.

One of my wife's music boxes - that I gave her long long ago - starts playing on it's own a couple times a week. That shit is freaking me out. Especially when my 16 month old is sleeping 4 ft. from it and I'm in the other room waiting for a figure that is from The Ring to come walking through the doorway. I've had enough ghostly incidents. I don't need more. And damn it - these thriller movie previews. I can't watch scary movies and I can't even watch the previews without getting wigged out.

Alright it just turned midnight, so I'll get this kicked off:

What the f'n h3ll is the story with all this rain?

Every day, wave after wave of it. Lots more to come as Bill swings by later, until it finally ends Friday night.

So far there have been only two positives - it hasn't been super-heavy rain, and I don't have any water (yet) in my basement. Both of those may change in the next 48 hrs. We'll see.

Good luck to the folks farther south have it even worse than here (St Louis MO).

No rides so far this week, none coming until at least Monday.

Swamped with packing to move out of my house this weekend, closing is Monday.

Of course, despite the fact that the house Debbie and I are buying is vacant, owner won't let us put stuff there pre-closing, so now I have the added fun of putting it all in storage, only to be moved again, less than a week later.

    Did I mention no rides?

Grump 1: I started feeling sick Monday morning before my flight home. By Tuesday I was full on sick. Now it's lingering and I haven't touched a bike all week.

Grump 2: I'm not still in California riding with the misfits out there.

My planning stinks. The week with the most daylight hours and I need to take at least one extra rest day. The shoulder I landed on a few years ago is getting worse and worse causing the most amazing single sided headaches as it tries to pull the side of my skull off. I desperately need to get out of work for a day or two before I have a total mental breakdown but I can't possibly let things stop moving for two days. And the meta-grump? My ass is chapped for no reasons worth being chapped over, other people have real issues like my friend that has hepatitis C, liver cancer and no working kidneys.

    my ongoing grump

Due to the unfortunate realities of how money is made in medicine (specifically, how young docs are best equipped to pay their med school loans back) and some other factors, outpatient psychiatrists are becoming a rare breed. Child psychiatrists even rarer - at this time, there are two practicing child psychiatrists in all of New Hampshire (or so I am told). 95% of all psychiatric medication can be adequately managed by a PCP or a prescribing nurse practitioner. But that remaining 5% - who have more complicated needs or who need to be prescribed medication that is riskier to manage - translates into a big number who are left scrambling for psychiatric care. I have literally sent out e-mails to every psychologist/social worker/Master's-level mental health worker I know in the area begging for contact information of psychiatrists in the area who are taking patients and I either get nothing or the same name of one person up in Lebanon (55 miles away).

Psychiatry used to be such a noble field. Now you'd have to be crazy (ha!) not to specialize (do your residency) in anything else. It's really a sad story and it's really negatively impacted the community.

I hear you but having just been on the seller side of a delayed closing (the buyers of our buyers home caused the delay on their closing and the ripple effect delayed our closing a few days) it is a really bad idea to do it as a seller. Our real estate agent and attorney both strongly advised not to let the new buyers occupy or store anything in our home until after the closing due to liability isues. If the closing did not go through for whatever reason it would also be a legal nightmare to get their stuff and/or them out of our house.

In addition, our insurance company stated that we would not be covered if we allowed them to occupy and/or store before the closing. So as a seller, it was not worth the risk.

I was more surprised why the buyers were angry with us because they had to stay in a hotel and store their stuff since they had the movers come a day before the closing.. They should have been angry with the buyers of their house who caused the problems by not paying a bill on time which caused the bank to hold the up their closing....and ours as a result.

So my grump is buyers who don't get everything taken care of during a home sale/closing and banks who hold up closings for a $15 late payment fee. WTF!!!!

We refinanced recently. About a month ago, a few weeks before my wife had major back surgery. She has shaky handwriting to begin with, and it has been declining due to neuropathy, numbness, tingling, etc. - hence the back surgery. She had totally lost feeling in her hand by the time we were done signing all the documents.

Yesterday we get an email that a "2" on one of the forms - 5/21/15 - isn't sufficiently legible. So she has to re-sign and send back. Whose job is it to review that? If this is some CFPB thing I withdrawal my admiration for Senator Warren.

She is recovering now at her parents house. They don't have a scanner or a fax machine. Going to Staples is about all she can do in a day. I emailed the mortgage guy and told him to send her hard copies of the forms to sign. I doubt this will happen.

    Funny grump:
I used to be cool. I used to try to kickflip down stairs. Last weekend, I pulled a bearing out of a skateboard to replace one that sized up in my vacuum beater bar. My vacuum cleaner rolls on Swiss Bones. I had fun doing it too...

    Serious grump:
My girlfriend and I are in a rough spot. Cycling seems to be the culprit. I just wonder if cycling is sort of symbolic of our personality differences. If I stop racing (I don't want to stop racing), I wonder if the things that make me an okay amateur bike racer (goal oriented, obsessive focus, selfishness, etc...) would just rear their head somewhere else. I also love her dearly and would be heartbroken to see her go. I wonder if she's better off without me.

23 yr grump - realizing that most woman are better off without a man in their lives (stats show they live longer) - I have this thought multiple times a year - so I focus on doing my best to make her and the boys happy.

Defspace if she supports your racing and training and realizes that cycling is "good for you" then you are in a good place - you need to find a balance to make time for her. I struggle with this and have a lot of guilt when my "recreational riding" takes me away from the family. I couldn't imagine the toll that training and race preparation takes on a relationship.
