I've been all over for great pizza, and I don't think I've found ithe best yet.

Same here, but I'm really enjoying the search.

Frank Pepe's has branched out from New Haven. There are now restaurants in Manchester and West Hartford CT, the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville CT, and in Yonkers NY.

Rumor has it that whoever is running the show supervises the construction, opening, and initial operation of each location to ensure they're true to the original, including the building of the oven.

I tell you all this because I had my first taste of Pepe's last week, when I met a former coworker in West Hartford, who recommended Pepe's.

The menu is very sparse; don't expect the full gamut of Italian dishes. I chose the "original tomato pie" Pepe's pizza, with sauce and grated parmesan. It's a VERY thin crust. I also partook of a white clam pizza. Very thin crust, generous on the clams.

Because the crust is so thin, you can eat more slices without feeling full.

I'd say it out ranks 90% of the typical pizza joints out there that are just looking to "make food", although I wouldn't wait in line for it like all the suckers who visit New Haven for the experience of waiting outside in line for an hour. All this coming from a guy who has no problem eating Domino's or Little Caesar's pizza.

    Star Tavern

My second pick is that joint in Penn Station just down from NJT, across the hall from the lingere shop.

This makes me feel guilty because New Haven is so close and I haven't made the trip to check these out. I've had some great Pizza in Italy. A new entrant is Otto in Chester, Ct. Thin crust made in a wood fired oven. Similar to Pizzeria Locale in Boulder which is very good. I used to really love V&T near Columbia in NYC.

But the Pizza I love the most is the late night slice at New York Pizzeria in Hamilton, NY.
