Vegas. I'm exhausted from being at a conference and walking countless miles every day, yet I haven't stepped outside in days. The scale of these hotels is crazy.

I used to work with a guy who washed his hands first and then stepped up to the urinal, holding himself with a paper towel.

I could never figure that one out.

    "infrastructure" = "crap-we-take-for-granted-until-it-kills-us-then-we-want-someone's-head-but-not-pay-a-cent-more-of-MY-HARD-EARNED-DOLLAHS-in-taxes-for."

the same can also be said of social service agencies: "why didn't they do more to protect xxx [usually a child]?"

Hindsight bias is a wonderful thing.

Think about it. Assuming one puts on clean underwear and pants every day after a good washing in the shower one's member is probably cleaner than anything else one will encounter all day. One puts their hands all over everything, like door handles where somebody sneezed and then opened the door with their hand all moist, and then grabs on to their member to pee? I say wash hands first, then if one is sloppy wash again.

But that's not my grump... and this is more funny than grump. Suburban town next door, some lady in her Lexus goes bonkers, cuts off school bus and tries to rip the doors open and climb aboard for reasons nobody can figure out. She's arrested. Here's the best part - local legislator proclaims he's going to work toward getting a law so you get extra penalties for cutting off a school bus and trying to rip the doors open and climb aboard because "we have to show that this kind of thing just won't be tolerated! Harrumph! Harrumph! Hey... I didn't get a harrumph from that guy!"

But here's my real grump. Suburban grocery stores. I normally go to a sort of city grocery and people are not pretty or privileged but they do know how to be considerate of everybody around them plus they can function. Me, a snob ass foodie gets what I can but sometimes there's one or two things they don't have so I have to go to the suburban store that has the poofy things I need. And I go to the 15 or less line with my one or two items. Two people in front of me, split their order so they can go through the quick line. Person 1 buys a bunch of stuff then gets out the coupons. Two or three wrong items for the coupons, so they send the bagger to get the right stuff. Then when he comes back they debate whether they really wanted the items. So person one finally goes through but then decides to back out the card swipe and pay cash. Now person two goes up... and tries to buy more items on coupon than the limit. Another debate ensues. I'd bail the line but there are people behind me by now. So finally they decide their course of action and attempt to use the first person's discount loyalty card. Guess what - the store blocks two consecutive loyalty swipes in the express line! More debate.... if you did that at the city store, and the cashier lady that was released from prison just this morning didn't throttle you, the guy behind you in line would either beat you in the parking lot or just shoot you right where you stand. I like the city store so much more.

This, to make y'all feel better:

A cyclist was seriously hurt after being hit by a truck on Tuesday morning and was lying unconscious in the street. However, the story gets worse from there.

What 25-year-old Gregory Lowrie needed was help; instead, some witnesses did the unthinkable and robbed him.

The impact knocked the bicyclist some 50 feet from where he collided with a pickup truck. It happened around 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Eighth and Union streets in West Oakland.

"Well we were supposed to meet up. We were going to the food bank after he goes down to the clinic," Margaret Lowrie, the victim's mother, said.

Margaret says her son was riding his bike to the health clinic where he has been undergoing treatment for a serious heart condition. A witness heard the crash and ran outside.

Witness Suga Slim said, "It was horrible and I mean he never moved after that. The man never moved."

But the story gets worse. While the 81-year-old driver of the truck was trying to help Gregory, a group of people went through his truck and stole his wallet.

And while the Gregory was lying on the ground by his bike, badly injured, police say a second group of people came up to him and took his wallet.

"This is a wonderful neighborhood, but there's some lousy people here," Margaret said.

Another witness said, "It's ridiculous. You have a person who's injured. You have a man who hit this individual. He's scared. It's sad. It really is sad."

Gregory's mother says they lost their home in Berkeley two years ago. Margaret said, "You know, when you're down, things just sort of kick you... it seems like. I don't know... It's bad."

The mother and son have been living in an RV not far from accident, while trying to get their lives back together and now this tragedy struck.

Gregory suffered a brain injury, broken bones and organ damage. He is in critical condition.

I dunno about the paper towel, but an ER doctor once told me that they always wash before and after.

These down layers have gotten under my skin, despite their utility. They have become a go-to uniform here in Maine and it's gone too far. Throw in a beard, carhartts, a Farmer's Market/CSA/some small batch Artisan locally sourced craft beer, and well, i'm irked. I love Maine and wouldn't live anywhere else, but as a state we lack style, which can't be good for our children! ahhhha

my little small town is leveling our little downtown area to make way for a 4 lane highway. Nothing will be left. The new downtown will be one of the ubiquitous shopping areas made of new building materials you find in the suburbs. Sad.

I went to a work conference last week where I was gifted the flu and have since developed bronchitis. I haven't been this sick in years and it's kept me locked in my house for a week. I'm really over it and would really like to get back on a bike.

Forget my previous grump. I just seriously sprained my ankle. It's going to be more than a couple of days before I'm moving unassisted again. Oh that hurt.
