I spent all week writing my end of year evaluation. Today I sat down with my team leader to go through all 12 pages of it. I find it absofuckinglutely ridiculous that we have to focus on team goals all year and then focus on individual accomplishment for a week. He had very few comments on what I wrote, I'm a pro at making little things appear like they saved all of humanity. Two years ago I was a career Naval Officer retiring after 27 years. I ran a 110 person department. Now I work as an engineer and only have responsibility to myself. My Team Leader mentioned that I could move into a leader role this upcoming year but he said he anticipated that I wouldn't do well since I couldn't yell at people and make them drop and do pushups when they didn't do what they were supposed to do. I didn't even know how to reply to that. I finally looked him in the eye and told him that he watches too many war movies and anyone who would behave like that as a supervisor is a fucking idiot. I don't see that leader role coming my way anytime soon, darn.

Air conditioner guy showed up unannounced today: "We're here, we've got your new unit, we're going to install it!". (It's Mexico) glad I've got air but it sure put a crimp in my day otherwise.

Ignore him. There are many more people in senior corporate roles who understand and appreciate military leadership training even though they may not have served.

Move on to a better job/boss/company and be appreciated for what you have to offer.

Felt like a #$*&ing Friday all day until I got home from work and stepped out of my car, shut the door but it bounced back open due to an obstruction. Tacoed my newish phone.

Neighbor called to let us know they saw a cougar walking out of our driveway around 7:00 (about when I was crawling up the hill on the commute home). Fuck...time to put the two kids, dog, cats, & chickens on leash again.

I'll do push-ups when the kitty moves along. They have 100sq*mi ranges and patrol them as they eat deer after deer after goat after sheep after cat after deer. I too busy on the look out for now. That and getting down low for push-ups is acting like prey.

I'll do another set of pushups but here's the deal. I get an email from my boss's boss's boss. It's a company attaboy... but the deal is it is for the guy thats last name is similar to mine and we commonly pass misrouted emails to each other. Me, I don't need no stinking attaboys but it must be great to be him and they don't even bother to check who they're sending it to - and they went to the trouble of adding in my boss and his boss to the cc list... and the guy doesn't work in my area. He has a different management chain.

I was so tempted to reply to my boss's boss's boss "Once more with feeling" but I didn't. I just forwarded it with a "Oh, man, nice work!"

Freakin' working interstate during the week, It means I don't sleep well. Why? When I go to bed all I can think about is building this frame of mine. Being interstate means I can't pop out to the garage after dinner for an hour to satiate my desires. Also means I have a big guilt complex as I think about it more than the family. I blame all of you guys. With your bloody ridiculously well made frames and great advice. How is one meant to not go down this path?

35 hours in a shitty hotel in Nashville does not excite me. I hope there's food to be had somewhere. The food provided by the company is served, quite conveniently, after 90% of the flights have departed their respective airports. Brilliant. At least the football games ought to be decent games.

I'm grumpy that my dad isn't going to be home for Thanksgiving today. He's basically retired, doesn't need the money by a long shot, but works part time supervising installs of large pieces of equipment in industrial facilities. The project he's doing now is behind schedule (they always are, the company is a disaster), so they're working through the holiday to catch up. Why he feels this is worth it is beyond me.

That work ethic is probably why he doesn't need the money by a long shot. I hope they're paying him a lot to work the holidays. But yeah, I agree, working on the holidays sucks.

About once or twice a year some crew has some 'epic experience', usually with a less than happy and certainly unplanned ending! Use your imagination. A few years ago a pilot from an airline similar to mine (but not mine) was picked up by the police, buck naked and walking along the road. His career may have experienced a hiccup at that point. One of our pilots decided his last day of work would entail sleeping in a hotel corridor similarly suited up in his birthday suit.

I'll have fun but I'm staying on the safe side of rowdy. As much as I have a severe love/hate relationship with my job I do want to go to work tomorrow!

Done grumping! Off for turkey and beers and football at the Marriott up the road.
