Help understanding stem angle

Been a long time since HS geometry class so help me understand.

Stems come in 0-6-8-10 +- rise. Take a typical HT angle of 73 degrees. What stem angle would you want if you wanted a flat or horizontal stem?

I'm guessing a neg 17 but I'm also guessing I'm wrong.

I like the aesthetics of a level stem. I'm looking to do some component swapping and am looking at stem options

-17 for parallel to the ground.

^What he said. I like my stems parallel with the top tube so on 6deg sloping TT I could go the -10.
