Caught this one yesterday. An aspect of rock and roll history you might not have considered. Or maybe its preaching to the choir (pun intended). Either way, I highly recommend it.

Merry Clayton's vocal on Gimme Shelter is INSANE.
Catch "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" for more backup band history.
I thought Stardom was going to be the name of a Gentlemen's Establishment's employee.
Auk's words to live by:
Blow up and pin a picture of M. Bartoli on your wall. When you achieve that position, stop. Until then, stretch, ride, stretch, ride, eat less, and ride more.
I heard the Fresh Air interview on this film and wanted to watch it.
Man I love Terry Gross!
laughter has no foreign accent.
Thanks, Chase.
There's a great moment in "Classic Albums: Dark Side of the Moon" where Roger Waters talks about Clare Torry. Looks like EMI has blocked the Youtube clip, I'll have to settle for this:

yup. it's been on my list. merry, lisa, darlene. glad I am not the only one interested
saw lisa again during the stones 50th. maybe 5-6 years ago she just killed mick on "the night time is the right time". even ray would have approved
wow, the shit you can learn from the comments.....
[ True fact: the physical strain from the vocals done by Merry Clayton (starting at 2:43) who was 9 months pregnant at the time, resulted in a miscarriage of her child. You can hear her voice crack at 2:57 which is apparently the moment she went into labor. She had the miscarriage shortly after finishing the recording session.]
Finally caught this one last night (it's on Netflix).
Holy cow. Such amazing vocalists.
The vocals from Gimmie Shelter:
I've been listening over and over and it still gives me goosebumps and makes my hair stand on end. I get chills every time her voice cracks.
I enjoyed the perspectives and general lack of bitterness. Yes, your voice was good enough, but Phil Spector screwed you over or the label underpromoted the solo effort or something... you came so painfully close but you're still smiling, and you still love what you do, and in many cases who you do it with.

Good call. Watched on NetFlix a while ago and keep it in heavy rotation when I need a lift. Sistahs can sing.

If this is your thing, then I'd also suggest the Muscle Shoals doc that finally hit Netflex a while ago.
