Thanks! NATE
BMX done and ridden.
She chose the color and I did the rest. Parts wheels, handlebar, stem, headset and fork are scavenged from a Trek. I got 140mm crank and a decent square taper BB (press fit BB are junk imo), Deore rear brake came from a disc brake swap, Pink grips, tyres (nice for the track and all around) are new. Saddle is a Bontrager I rode a lot but is ok for her small behind.
I did it a little slacker and lower than stock junior ''race'' BMX so it more stable and therefore it is more fun for her.

Yeah, the paint is rattle can but it is done well and it's holding (rather well on the chromed fork). Two passions are shown there, soccer and bicycle.
Anyway I'll have to strip it in two years for the little boy.
Thanks!
Construction on a new frame set dubbed the "Hanabi". 650b road bike with some fun details.
Etching
Double, double toil and trouble. Pre -bond etchant = hot sulphuric + oxalic acid.
Etched (smut)
Chromium oxide smut.
Desmutting
Hot chromic acid de-smut. Nasty, nasty substance.
Glassed, ready to bond
25 gsm glass to separate the galvanic couple.
Ground to size
Done.
I built a new flatland frame for myself and tested it.
