Default any frame builders near detroit?

I am in the research and self educating phase of hopefully building a frame this coming winter. I have been looking for any frame builders in the greater Detroit area, but with no luck. I don't care if they are a hobbyist or pro. I would like to share info and possibly look over someone's shoulder now and then. Any frame builders in metro Detroit?

    Doug Fattic?

He's in Michigan, right? Not sure how close he is to Detroit.

I’m in Niles, Michigan on the very southwest part of the state just above South Bend, Indiana and Notre Dame University. I’m 100 miles from Chicago and 200 miles from Detroit. Niles is one of the Amtrak stops between those 2 cities. Did you go to the Detroit bicycle show a few weeks ago? A number of Michigan builders exhibited there. You can probably get contact info about them from the show’s website. Many of them were students in one of my framebuilding class. I’ve had quite a number come from the other side of the state. I have no idea how much they would be willing to share the knowledge that they bought (which gives them a competitive advantage) to someone trying to find info on the cheap that may be an eventual competitor. You should think of a strategy that makes connecting with someone with experience to their advantage too. Of course I’m going to tell you that simplest and most effective way to learn how to build frames is by taking a framebuilding class.

Matt Assenmacher is a very experienced builder in Swarz Creek somewhat near Flint. He apprenticed at Bob Jackson in Leeds, UK in the 70’s. However he runs a bicycle store that leaves little time for building and painting and probably even less for chatting.

By the way thunderzy, new rules require you to somehow show your full name in your posts. I thought I should warn you before the forum police arrest you..

Sorry my name is Zack Atisha. I emailed you several years ago. And you promptly responded with all your class offerings. But its near impossible for me to get away for more than several days. If I could I would do the most comprehensive class you offer. I have been trying to get in the 3 day class but haven't been able to get away. I am in no way trying to get info cheap. I am more than willing to pay for someone's time. As I offered to do in the email I sent to Bob Keller. I am willing to accept whatever fee the builder deems fair.

I did not attend the Detroit bike show. Didnt even know about it until earlier this week. Pissed I missed that. But I'll go to the website and start trying to get in touch with anyone I can. Thanks for the tip.

there is also Detroit bicycle company, which is different then Detroit bikes, and also Motorless City. But I concur that the best way to learn is to go to Doug Fattic's class...

Thanks for all the help guys. I've sent out emails to most of the mentioned builders. Not one responded. I don't blame them. I understand. Hopefully I can get to some of Doug Fattic's classes in the near future.

Try stopping by in person just to meet one of the local builders. But consider Fattic's class too because you can never learn too much.
There is a reason salespeople make calls in person - it is far more effective than mailing or spam email.
