6 weeks post V-day, and I'm sporting epididymal cysts that are making me feel like I have 4 balls. And they hurt. Went to the doc last week -- large doses of ibuprofen three times a day was the advice. A week later and they're still big, and while they weren't hurting as much for a few days, the constant ache is coming back.

Oh yay, I'll likely need another (more intrusive) procedure to have these removed. Hopefully they take out the correct two... Who knows how long I'd be off the bike this time...

Old grump, second of the day, I'll do extra pushups. I could use them.

Receive email from person assigned to one of my projects complaining that we haven't told them anything, they don't know what's involved or what to do and can we have a meeting to talk about it they can't proceed without one. Requirements document was on the email to them. I know that because the email system tells me they detached it before replying. Do you have any idea how difficult it is not to tell them I can't, I ran out of spoons so it won't be possible to spoon feed them? Why do I have to maintain this facade of professionalism? Why, oh why?

Yeah, small potatoes, but it came five minutes after a guy panicked when he read the first two lines of the high level outline of what I'm doing overnight Saturday and I had to talk him off the ledge by reading the rest of the high level outline to him.

    Where's that bottle of rum?

New position - the proverbial offer I couldn't refuse from my CEO. 10x the stress of what was already extreme, I won't be doing the part of my job that I love (and fear losing my skills in this area), and I get to keep the titles (and two full time jobs that go with them) I currently hold without being able to recruit for replacements for a while. While it's upward mobility and approaching the top of the healthcare org chart, it's for the same or potentially less pay. Bike racing is out the window, riding at all will be limited to a couple of hours on the weekends. And I had to cancel a planned trip to Spain next and lost $5k nonrefundable. On the plus side, my wife is very understanding. She's been a trooper over the years as a wife and functionally single parent.

so fresh in my mind...I've got two.

it is so f'ing difficult to get any meaningful information from either the IRS site and the OR SOS site on exactly what needs to be filed for covering nanny taxes. I want so badly to do the right thing, but am really struggling to piece together all the correct paperwork, especially for the state of OR.

If anyone could explain to me the structure of Argon pricing, I'd be appreciative. The local weld shop is the only experience I regularly have where someone is trying to bend me over EVERY single time I go in. Despite paying about the same price for eight years straight, it's like I'm buying a car every few weeks.

This morning when I gave up on sleeping I walked into the bathroom and felt like I needed to hock one up after a night of breathing through my ears. This ongoing sinus fuckitude has made this my morning routine. The chunks have been getting larger but this morning something the size (without exaggerating) the size of an egg yolk came up. About the same color too. Where the hell did that come from? How did I not choke to death over night? What purpose could it serve? Am I supposed to feed it to my young or put a wooden stake through its heart to make sure it is definitely dead?

Year-old eyeglasses have the antiglare coating coming off in flakes despite my careful treatment. Means everything is a bit fuzzy until I take some polish to them. Lame.

Friday I had a verbal offer with papers coming. Yesterday, instead of the paperwork, I heard that they're not filling the position now.

That is bullshit, very unprofessional bullshit. Companies like this are my grump, sorry, didn't want to do pushups.

Remember the PM I was complaining about? well hes at it again. Monday and Tuesday I worked a combined 34 hours. I was the only one on the team that could do this stuff. It should have been started weeks ago. Needless to say, I have been useless since then.

Anyways, today I hauled my 210 lb ass up 230 flights of fire stairs, for a little office competition. That was "fun". Going to the shower and finding my personal towel had previously been used by someone else today, was not. Its common knowledge you bring your own towel if your working out at lunch. I have had suspicions of this before, but this was the first time it was obvious. These are not things I am ok with sharing. This is a shower 3 or 4 people use per day at most.

The office will be receiving a shower etiquette email shortly.

Enormous mole removed from the small of my back right over the spine about a week ago. There are about five stitches there. No riding or other strenuous exercise until next week. Twisting or bending varies from stinging to pretty painful. Doc gave stern warning about pulling the stitches out accidentally. Not many comfortable positions to stand, sit or recline. Currently between pain from the incision to itchy stitches.

I'm grumpy that the person in 1F thought it was OK to board a plane while obviously fighting a severe case of flu and highly infectious. Was so out of it on sinus meds I'm not sure she even knew we were flying.

Armchair critics that have been badmouthing the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) due to their announcements that (A) unregistered ruck marchers will not be allowed on the course (due to the increased field size of 36,000) and (B) MBTA train service for the Marathon Midnight Bike Ride will not be provided for the cyclists, as they did last year.

If the ruck marchers want to participate they should get bib numbers similar to the 130 National Guard members that will be marching the course. For the record, I think any military personnel that wants to walk the course should be given a number. I also think it's unfortunate the MBTA won't allow the large number of bikes on the train, but maybe the ride could be moved up/back one week just for this one year. I think folks need to cut the BAA some slack due to last year. There are LOTS of restrictions this year for runners (like we can't bring ANY bags on the bus to the start line), so we're all trying to make the best of this.

After doubling the speed of the company's flagship product, my raise was 0.75% and the boss told me what a rotten employee I am because I fought the people who said I couldn't do it.

Someone pushed out our campus QoS configs to all of our datacenter switches. Goodbye, 30% of our useable bandwidth. I'll be cleaning this up tomorrow night. That's pretty minor, and I'm thankful that it's all I have to grump about.

I miss commuting to an office on my bike. Working from home means my wife knows when I'm out for a ride, I'm not "just commuting." I've ridden less than 10 times in 2014 as a result. Normally I'd have 2000 miles in my legs by now. I don't even think I have 300 this year.
