Waiting for my wife to come out of shoulder surgery. Capsule and rotator cuff being done. 3-4 weeks in a sling, which is better than two years ago when she had the other one - 8 weeks in the sling then.

I finally went to the doctor and she said you have a chronic cough brought on by draining sinuses. There was a plane flight in October I took while congested, and it took a week to recover from the cabin pressure afterwards. My sinuses evidently never cleared. I am taking a cough suppressant, a decongestant, and an antihistamine. Strangely I can ride and breathe. Nothing in my lungs. My nose isn't really congested. The stuff comes out of the center of my head, drains down the back of my throat and I cough. It does this constantly. The drugs give me a break from the coughing, but the doctor says it will take a while for everything to recover. I really wish I could remove my head and wash it out under the spigot. Or maybe a long bottle brush. Paint thinner. Flame thrower.
Been there. Likely a sinus infection. ENT can go in with a vacuum cleaner (i think that's the technical term) and clean out your maxillary sinus cavities (not fun). Antibiotics can help too. One thing you might try without more MD visits is a sinus rinse. Basically spraying a saline rinse up one nostril and it drains out the other. Not much fun either, but not painful and does help keep things clean. Then there's the nuclear option - surgery with deviated septum correction, turbinate reduction, CT scans, drugs and pain. And it can still come back (my grump for the past six months).

About 7 months ago I transferred (semi-voluntarily) to another department in my company because work was slow in my department. I don't hate the work I do now, but the old work was what I really wanted to do, and I made it clear from the beginning that I would like to be back in the old department as soon as that was workable. I'm gaining good experience where I am now, but my heart is elsewhere. About a month ago the head of my old department reached out to my boss (and other department heads who got some of the overflow from my old department) to get a feel for how I liked my new role. What I told my boss was that I absolutely want to be back in my old department, but that if there was anyone who hated where they were, let them go back first.

I was excited about the prospect of returning to my old department and figured I'd hear more soon. A month went by. Today I was in my old department for something unrelated and happened to see my old boss. I chatted with him for a bit about the reshuffling of people and I immediately started to get the sense that he had no plans to bring me back, so I asked him directly what message he had gotten from my current boss. He said the impression he got from my boss was that I was happy where I was and would like to stay. So if I hadn't talked to the old boss I could have been stuck in the new role indefinitely. I'm not particularly angry at my boss because I can see how the things I told him could have gotten muddled a bit by the time they got back to my old boss but I'm very frustrated that I could potentially have been moving back in the next few weeks - they've already moved enough people back to cover the currently quoted business, so I'll have to wait for more quotes to be accepted and probably for my current boss to backfill my position so I can train my replacement.

We can talk about the other side of the coin tomorrow.

Sinus wash is on the schedule for next week. I am looking forward to writing about it in next week's grump.

Big important newpapers are in the business of going out of business. Network news has more in common with Jerry Springer than journalism. Yo, you spent "the good old days" hiding under a school desk, waiting for the world to end.

Vile lyrics? Rock and roll- therefore all pop music- and in fact the blues which it was based upon- had always been about cars, murder and underage girls.

    It's all your POV.

I'm getting grumpier by the day too.

I went for my first road ride in a while the other day, put a 50t back on my my cross bike. I knew my chain was two short for the 50-30, but figured I would remember, and shouldn't be using it anyways. Of course first red light I jam everything up, its still running ok, so I move on, it was beautiful out. Despite the perfect weather (~60 degrees) other than the wet ground, my toes freeze, with two layers of wool socks and two shopping bags. about 10 miles in I had to avoid some people and went into my big-big again. This time the rear der. is pretty bent, to the point of no fixing it. I limped home basically, frozen feet and all. about 10 feet from my door step in 34x30, the bent der. causes the chain to over shift and destroys my chain, hanger, finishes my der., cassette, is bent, and about 3 broken spokes.

    10 DAMN FEET.

Pretty much what happened to me a few years back on a camping trip middle of nowhere western MN. Your grump reminds me how awfully grumpy I was the next few hours.

Nierman hates me, or at least I make him grumpy. With exception of the PT cruiser, I would never.

Nope - just this Extra Special Fantastic Person (sales rep) I work with who thinks he wants to be creative director today on a client's ad. If he wouldn't have sold the ad a week after deadline, I might've let him choose a typeface or a multiple choice pick from select istock photos.

I live vicariously through personalities like yours, rowdy. Not in an ISFJ kinda way though.

    ISFJ

Creeps. “Nice guys.” The ISFJs are really fucking creepy. They do not know what privacy means, and they do not care even if you direct them to a dictionary. They are the traditional silent stalker, the ones who become serial murderers at age 40 out of a growing sense of meaningless in life. Everyone moves away from them, and rightfully so.

Powder coater scrapped ~$200 worth of parts. And by scrap I mean they are absolutely worthless, not just a matter of a new coat of paint. When I tell you that something has a tolerance window of .0005 you can't take an air sander to it! I love painters, absolutely fucking love them.

Oh, and I've got one of these things in the stand. Good be grumpy about it till next Thursday or it might be no big deal.

Last one for me today -- my dad died at about 2:30 this afternoon. And while that's a bummer, in a way it's also a relief. The vigil can end, his suffering is at an end. Parkinson's ultimately takes another man down. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

My condolences. I knew a great man with Parkinsons and it was difficult to see how it deteriorated his spirit.

Well, my luck ran out. I've been dodging viruses (viri?) and critters all winter but they got me this week. If my nose shuts down I'm screwed because it hurts to breathe through my mouth. At least the dry cough is now not dry. All you can do with a dry cough is bark, with a wet cough at least you can get creative and make music. My bones have been cranking out white blood cells so fast they're beginning to hurt. My poor kidneys, though. Those little bastards are working so hard processing dead white blood cells they feel like somebody's been pounding them with a mallet. I'd really like to mix a bottle of rum and a bottle of lemon juice 1:1 and drink it with a box of Sudafed but I think that'd be counter productive.
