beyond grumpy that it's almost November and I still don't know what is available to my family for health insurance next year. "If you like your current policy, you can keep it!!!". A fucking LIE. What wasn't mentioned was that if your current policy has one tiny provision that doesn't comply with ACA, your provider has the option to cancel the policy outright rather than changing it to comply. Well, my insurer decided to cancel my policy. Awesome. They've sent 3 letters in the last month saying they'll be sending my options for next year. Still no letter. And, even more awesomer, based on the online calculators, my premium will stay roughly the same, but my annual out of pocket max will go from $3k to $12k. So, I'm basically paying double my current policy for a policy that I'm not able to buy. ?????. What a colossal, unbelievable, embarrassing goatfuck this whole thing is.

My wife went to a neck pain specialist today. He is about 70. Her MRIs were "the strangest he's ever seen". He doesn't think that there is anything he can do for her with medication or injections and that she almost certainly needs surgery (by a guy we won't see for another 6 months).

In a perverse way this isn't a grump. We're actually elated. Several clueless neurosurgeons have declared her normal.

My grump is (yet again) Prius drivers. Why are they 9 times out of 10, the ones making stupid moves and putting my life in jeopardy? Last night, woman in Prius decides she will drive in the oncoming lane for a few hundred yards so she could make a left. Apparently she did not see my 500 lumen flashing light in that oncoming lane. Lucky for me, her ABS worked well.

I was going to complain about what has become the annual shoulder hurts like hell because of blown out disk in neck but I started thinking about the circumstances and realized a matter of inches this way or a second in time one way or another that way I got nothing to complain about. Sucky thing is choices. Take a risk and get it fixed or live with it? It does take the enjoyment out of riding a bike.

addendum grump to your grump re: drivers in the wrong lane. Apparently it's OK to PARK on the wrong side of a busy road so that you don't have to drag your fat, disgusting over cake-holed ass out of your car to get your fucking mail. Don't pull a hammy reaching out your window for your Cinnabon coupon pack!

Fog. WTF? Every day for the last 10 days, and some days it doesn't even burn off. Visibility the last two morning commutes has been about 30 feet, at best. Temps are the same when I get up in the morning and ride home after work in the afternoon. At least it DID burn off yesterday afternoon, and I saw the sun for the first time in a week.

Oh, and my life has been this for the last week and a half: Ride to work, work 'til lunchtime, take a short SS MTB ride, work 'til quittin' time, ride home, take care of 2-month-old daughter 'til bed time (that being when SHE goes to sleep), try to get in enough sleep to function, get up, ride to work... Can't get anything done.

And to add one more... A couple days ago, my wife "wants to talk". Upshot of the conversation -- she thinks I should sell my motorcycle "because you're not riding it." Yeah, because I'm riding my bicycles to/from work, and every other time I'm going somewhere, you're tagging along. If I'm going alone, I'd take the motorcycle. I feel like I've been attacked by the extortionists who create the problem, then rush in with the solution.

If a landlord in SF wants to "go out of business" they can legally evict all of their tenants without cause and sell their rental units at a fat profit. People who have lived in their apartments for decades are being thrown out on the street with no options, and due to the recent spike in housing costs, they must either pay sharply increased rent (that they often cannot afford) or leave the area.
