I can't write another letter to the paper for about 20 days... started a letter war after the Fulton County Sheriff blamed a cyclist for getting run down and killed acting as a total apologist for the driver, clearly having swallowed their account whole and uncritically and for good measure added statements about traffic law that were factually incorrect. I'd so tear apart today's with great flair but I can't and have to rely on somebody else... can't even ghost write, they ask you specifically if you wrote it yourself. Damn.

I will say, though, the paper contacted me because they're writing a followup article and I was able to prime them on a couple questions to ask the sheriff, like did you check the cell phone etc.

A young woman, with whom my daughter once went to school, was killed by a car while riding her bike across the country. Obituary: Lee Merritt Levitan | MyTownMatters

This is tragic, and I'm more sad than grumpy.

My Thursday Bitchfest bitch is small beans compared to the above, but I've got a brand new, fits like a glove, log choppin', holler'n orange Coconino that I've spent all of 2 hours on in the last 3 weeks.

Yeah mine seems trivial, but I hate it when my A coil pretends to be an ice maker. At least it got down in the 60s last night.

I'd like to give a shout-out to the driver of the new silver Acura SUV who ran me off Strimples Mill Road Tuesday night.

Hey new SUV driver: Yes, you have a lovely new vehicle and thank you for stopping to see if I was OK in the ditch, I was and you didn't. Yes, the road is rural and narrow but there's no reason to hug the opposite side around a bend, perhaps you were testing your new SUV's handling in sport mode? I'm really glad I saw you, you clearly didn't see me. I ride that road often, so please, new SUV driver, pay attention. My wife and children will appreciate it.

Grumpy and very thankful it wasn't worse.

    Sayings:

    "It is what it is."
    As opposed to its variants:
    It is what it isn’t.
    It isn’t what it is.
    It isn’t what it isn’t.
I guess it depends on what the definition of is, is.

"At the end of the day…."

    "That’s what I’m talkin’ about."

The (reporters, workers, politicians, etc) are “on the ground”.
Wouldn’t it be obvious if they were on a plane, helicopter, hang glider, boat, skydiving or scuba diving?

    "On the same page."

When someone is miffed or incredulous at something:
    "Really?"
    "Seriously?"

Folks who bring snark and a bad attitude to discussions but when challenged have nothing of substance to add.

Even worse if they sit in the back of a meeting room in the "safe zone" commenting to others and being a distraction.

    Help solve problems or STFU.

IT departments. We are not at work for their benefit FFS. They are actively preventing the company from doing work in an efficient manner. Why do they think they are the most important people in the company.

Josh - Clarification on GYGT rules please. Are push-ups required for responding to grumps??

Stricktly speaking yes. I'll do 10 for you and you do the rest.

poorly dressed coworkers. i know it's hot out, but that's no excuse for camouflaged cargo shorts, a striped shirt, and tattered flip flops. have some self respect and maybe others around here will respect you too.

I'll do my pushups right here in my office. Fire your IT shop. If it is as you describe at your company...fire 'em. Then fire your senior management for letting it happen. I actively root out and eliminate anyone in my IT org that starts to think it's all about them.

I loathe this expression. I challenge anyone to cite an instance where it added ANY meaning to what is being said.

...Oh, going forward! Thanks! I thought for a second that we had invented a time machine and what we were talking about is going to happen in the past.

Today's 'Thursday's Bitchfest' bitch: people I meet whose first words to me, after their name, is a comment on my height. Are you really so slow witted that they only thing you can think to say is, "Why aren't you playing in the NBA". I noticed you're eating a SECOND bacon and egg bagel sandwich provided for our meeting, but I don't ask you how much weight you're carrying around your mid-section.

Really and truly, I'm not hung up on my height. Its a non-factor in my life. I just grow wearing of having to discuss it.

    People are just disappointing sometimes.

Oh shit, you hit a nerve. I'll take whatever punishment I deserve for adding to a grump. Business casual, insurance type company. WTF makes you think shorts and sandals, and I don't care how nice they are, are business casual. Flip flops with sparkles are still fancy shower shoes, they are not and will never be appropriate in an office setting.

Don't bitch when I turn the ac down, it's 98 deg and 80% humidity outside and I can't wear shorts and a tank top. Although I've considered it, but I'm not a complainer or trouble maker in real life so I'm not going to try it. We're allowed to dress down on Fridays, jeans, how hard is it to dress business casual? Someone always has to push the dress code envelope.

I wish Rapha would come up with a business casual tank top for men, I'd pay whatever they asked.
