Disc related fork recall...
Thought this might be interesting as I remember reading recently in a few different threads about what is and is not acceptable for a steel disc fork. I work a few days a week at an LBS and remember special ordering a few of these for customers. Goes to show that you can't always base what larger companies spec as standards for safety.

Re: Disc related fork recall...
Who knows if they were even chrome-moly coming from China?
All bets are off when you farm stuff out.
- Garro.

Re: Disc related fork recall...
Bummer. I remember I had to turn in my recalled Salsa stem. I happily handed over both parts of it.......broke right at the weld. Please take these recalls very seriously.

Well, they sure have lost some of their Moto lately, so it just might be *********.
And I say that as a long time Salsa fan. Own an original and a QBP version.

Worthless.
Salsa made some cool stuff back in the Petaluma days.

Re: Disc related fork recall...
seems like they recently had a similar problem with a fatbike fork.

Re: Disc related fork recall...
Of the failures it would be interesting to know what size tires were used. There is a huge traction difference between a 23mm road slick and a 2.3" mountain bike tire and those frames are pretty versatile.

Worthless!
I just picked up a 14" 26 ala carte for one of my youngin's. @ least they still handle correctly.
All that said, blah blah blah, how bad would it suck if you or one of yours got really hurt w/a poorly built/designed fork...
eek.
In Garro we trust.

Alistair.
+1. A major like QBP, SBS or Trek periodically will buy a small 'builder because of the brand. Then they proceed to fritter away brand credibility. It's kind of crazy, to destroy the very thing you paid out for.

Re: Disc related fork recall...
Jim, that was the link I gave, but I misread it. The 100 mm forks were aftermarket only, some frames/bikes had 135mm forks that are also being recalled. There were a couple of reports of failures on mtbr

Re: Disc related fork recall...
They've had TWO stem recalls in the last few years. I'm just not buying any of their structural stuff at this point. And a rack I think.
